ECOVACS GOAT G1: beacon navigation, mowing and recovery notes

I found the GOAT G1’s positioning errors stopped after a reset, but later still needed a push to dock; I also explain its wire-free mowing trade-offs.

Update

The positioning error resolved on its own. It has not happened again so far. I set it to start once every two days, and there have been no further positioning problems.

Do not buy it! Every time it starts, it reports a positioning error, and I have to delete all the beacons, add them again, and redraw the map before it can be used!

Pros

  1. No boundary wire needs to be buried. The buried-wire mower I bought before cut through all of its wires.
  2. After creating a map, mowing is fully automatic, and I do not need to empty the grass.
  3. It mows evenly within the mapped area, without leaving high and low patches.

Cons

  1. The machine is already expensive, and four additional signal beacons are also needed.
  2. The edges and corners still have to be handled myself.

The source post does not show a complete capacity suffix or full model number. The official Italian listing identifies the regional product as ECOVACS GOAT G1, a beacon-based mower with wire-free in-app boundaries and TrueMapping localization; the German accessory listing explains that extra navigation beacons can expand coverage for complex garden layouts. The owner’s experience should not be assumed to apply to newer O600 RTK or LiDAR GOAT models.

What the beacon system changes

The owner’s main benefit is avoiding buried boundary wire: after mapping, the mower reportedly works automatically and does not require grass-emptying. The official Italian GOAT G1 listing describes wire-free in-app boundaries and TrueMapping localization, while the German accessory page says additional beacons can expand coverage for more complex layouts. Four extra beacons are therefore the owner’s setup, not a universal requirement for every garden.

The owner also reports even mowing inside the mapped area, but still has to finish edges and corners personally. That means a mapped, wire-free setup can reduce routine intervention without eliminating manual trimming around the lawn perimeter.

Positioning recovery was not the same as full reliability

The source account contains two different stages of experience. It first describes a positioning error at every start, requiring all beacons to be deleted and re-added before the map was redrawn. The later update says the error stopped on its own after the mower was set to start every two days, but that is the owner’s individual outcome rather than a guaranteed fix.

A later visible owner reply adds an important limitation: the mower could mow automatically but still could not dock at the base and needed to be pushed back. Buyers should treat positioning recovery and reliable docking as separate checks rather than assuming that one improvement resolves every navigation fault.

Specifications and regional buying checks

For the Italian regional GOAT G1, ECOVACS lists a maximum mowing area of 1,600 m², a 3–6 cm cutting height, a 45% slope rating and a 5.2 Ah battery. The listed total lawn area is not an area-per-charge result, so it should not be compared directly with the owner’s household experience or treated as a promise of one-charge coverage.

The official Italian page currently marks the G1 as unavailable, while the German page documents navigation beacons as an accessory. Availability and beacon requirements can therefore differ by market and garden layout; check the local mower listing, accessory supply and the number of beacons needed before buying.
