Kinetico Overdrive: Edmonton installation notes for Premier XP and Kinetico K5 buyers

I arranged installation of a Kinetico softener and separate drinking-water system in my new Edmonton home; the non-electric setup left my hands feeling less dry, with warranty reassurance.

I finally had the water softener and purifier installed before prices went up.

Living in Edmonton, Canada, I could not avoid the effects of hard water, such as hair loss and dry skin, so arranging a softener and water purifier became my first priority after moving into the new home.

Even after doing a lot of research, I chose Kinetico. Its much-discussed technology does not use electricity and is said to save salt. Although many people call it an unnecessary expense, after using it I found that my skin really did feel silky, and my hands were no longer dry after washing. It even made me joke that I could climb five floors in one go without feeling tired.

While I was getting a quote from Costco, I saw a post shared by a woman from Edmonton. I then visited a local showroom, where she also shared money-saving tips and introduced me to a fantastic sales associate.

The showroom had systems at several levels, as shown partly in Photo 2. The sales associate said that a single-tank system would normally be enough for two people, but I chose a larger one for extra peace of mind. I also arranged the water-purification system at the same time. Like the softeners, the purification systems came in three levels, so you can choose according to your budget and needs.

The entire installation was very quick and pleasant. Having a warranty also makes me feel reassured when using it. For me, these systems are essential additions to a new home.

The installed softener is visibly marked Kinetico Overdrive, but the complete SKU is not legible. Kinetico Canada lists Premier XP as a separate current non-electric multi-tank softener, so its specifications should not be treated as specifications of the owner’s unit. The separate under-sink Kinetico drinking-water system resembles the K5 range, but its exact model is also unconfirmed.

What the installation establishes

The owner’s account covers a new-home installation in Edmonton, where she wanted both softened water and a separate drinking-water system because she associated the local hard water with dry skin and hair problems. Her reported improvement was personal: she found her skin felt smoother and her hands less dry after washing. This was an individual experience, not a measured water-quality or dermatological test.

The installation photograph shows two tall black softener tanks, a pre-filter housing and a grey brine tank, while the under-sink photograph shows a separate filtration assembly. The images support the presence and general arrangement of the systems, but they do not reveal the complete model numbers or prove the performance of any particular cartridge or configuration.

Choosing the system size

The salesperson told the owner that a single-tank softener would normally suit two people, but she selected a larger system for extra reassurance. That choice reflects her household preference rather than a confirmed sizing calculation. Kinetico says dealer sizing depends on water conditions and household demand, so shoppers should have their local conditions and expected usage assessed instead of copying this configuration automatically.

The showroom displayed several softener sizes and three levels of drinking-water systems, giving the owner a range of configurations. The source does not provide the installed capacity, salt-use rate, water-hardness reading or the exact filtration cartridges, so those practical differences remain unknown and should be confirmed in a local quote.

Softening is not drinking-water purification

The owner purchased the softener and drinking-water system together, but they serve different purposes. Kinetico Canada presents its whole-house softeners separately from its point-of-use drinking-water systems. The softener alone therefore does not establish contaminant removal or drinking-water safety; cartridge selection for the under-sink system depends on local water conditions.

Installation and support

The owner described the installation as quick and pleasant and said the warranty made her feel more comfortable using the systems. That is her installation experience; the source does not state the warranty term, service coverage, maintenance schedule or ongoing replacement costs, so those details should be checked with the Edmonton dealer before purchase.
