Commissioning this American-brand Kinetico water softener. Open the front cover. Then take this lid off. There is an adjustment valve here. Press this screw down when commissioning it. Turn it to the right. Then it will flush. Refill, brine draw and backwash: it rotates through four steps like this. One, two, three, four, then it makes a full turn. It automatically refills the water here. This is where you add salt. This unit usually takes salt blocks. Put one on the left and one on the right.
You can also add granular salt. Try not to add too much salt at a time. If you use blocks, place them against the back. If they sit at the front, salt deposits can come out through this gap. This is a twin-tank unit. A compact Kinetico twin-tank unit. For under the counter. The commissioning adjustment is up here. You need to press this screw down. Once it is pressed down, there is a...

There is this part that catches... Like a slot. It engages with this part. And turns this dial. That is how this American-brand Kinetico softener is commissioned. This kind of unit is quite simple, not that complicated. Just adjust it like this. Depending on the flow rate, water hardness and other conditions, You change the disc inside here. There are number three, five, six and nine discs; you change this disc.

Models in your region
The source title identifies the unit as Kinetico Pinzhen 2020C, while a visible valve label reads Premier Compact. That supports a Compact-family comparison, but not proof of an identical regional SKU. The China and UK Premier Compact products are documented separately; the US Premier XP models are related products rather than confirmed renames.
| Model in this review | Related regional model | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Kinetico Pinzhen 2020C (Premier Compact valve label) | Kinetico Premier Compact (Mainland China) | The Chinese official page documents Premier Compact, a compact non-electric twin-tank softener with an integrated salt cabinet, but does not establish that Pinzhen 2020C is the identical regional SKU. Shared Compact-family design is supported. |
| Kinetico Pinzhen 2020C (Premier Compact valve label) | Kinetico Premier Compact (UK) | The UK regional counterpart is Kinetico Premier Compact. It is a compact non-electric twin-tank unit for a kitchen cupboard, but its HE and HF configurations should be selected for local hardness, plumbing and demand. The source is an installer demonstration, not a long-term homeowner review. |
| Kinetico Pinzhen 2020C (Premier Compact valve label) | Kinetico Premier XP S150 / S250 (US) | The US listing identifies Premier XP S150 and S250 as related products, not as confirmed US renames of Compact or 2020C. Do not transfer the source unit’s dimensions, flow assumptions or commissioning-disc settings to these models. |

What the demonstration actually covers
The source author presents a service demonstration rather than a long-term owner review. The video shows a small, under-counter twin-tank Kinetico unit, opening the front and removing a cover to reach the commissioning valve. The visible Premier Compact label supports the product-family identification, while the source title supplies the Pinzhen 2020C name.
For the reader, the practical takeaway is access: the demonstrated control is located at the top of the unit, behind the opened front and removed cover. The author describes pressing the screw, turning it to the right and using the mechanism to rotate the dial; the account does not provide a model-independent numerical setting.
Regeneration and salt handling
The installer calls this a four-stage cycle and describes rinsing/refill, brine draw and backwash before referring to the next stage. The video does not clearly name four separate stages. It shows the installer initiating the cycle and describes automatic refill, without establishing timing or disc settings for every Compact-family configuration.
The author says the machine can use salt blocks or granular salt, recommends adding a smaller amount, and places blocks toward the back rather than the front. The installer generally recommends one block on each side; the stated reason for keeping blocks away from the front is to reduce salt residue escaping through the gap.
Choosing the regional product
In Mainland China, the official Premier Compact listing gives dimensions of 219 × 468 × 498 mm, or about 21.9 × 46.8 × 49.8 cm, with two 4.5 L resin vessels. It describes a non-electric twin-tank design, an integrated salt cabinet, salt-block and granular-salt compatibility, configurable hardness discs and an inlet-pressure range of 1.8–6 bar.
The UK Premier Compact has the same listed dimensions—498 mm high, 219 mm wide and 468 mm deep—and is intended to fit in a kitchen cupboard while alternating tanks maintain continuous supply. Buyers must choose between HE and HF flow configurations according to actual water hardness, plumbing and demand; the listed ten-year warranty is for parts coverage.
US shoppers should treat the Premier XP S150 and S250 as related Kinetico technology, not confirmed equivalents of the demonstrated Compact or Pinzhen 2020C. The manufacturer directs buyers to a local specialist for water testing and sizing, so the Chinese demonstration's dimensions, flow expectations and disc numbers should not be carried across.
