Neakasa M1: a month of cleaning and litter tracking, with M1 Plus buying context
After a month with my Neakasa M1, I find the open top easy to clean and odors manageable in the bedroom. Litter tracking is the drawback I still notice.

Why I Chose Yibao’s Open Automatic Litter Box
As an overworked wage slave, I really don't want to come home every day and scoop litter. Sometimes one of my cats has loose stool, and the smell is even worse. So a friend got me interested in this: Neakasa's open-top automatic litter box. I've used it for a month, and today I want to share my honest thoughts.
Open Design, Comfort, and Visibility
Neakasa's model is probably quite popular among the open-top automatic litter boxes on the market right now. It also has a really nice design. It's round and so cute. The benefit of an open-top design is that cats aren't restricted when they use the bathroom. The open top gives a sense of security. so they can fully stretch out. It's a cat's natural instinct, to prefer using the bathroom in an open environment. They feel more comfortable and secure. It's also very convenient.
We as cat owners can clearly see the condition of our cats' poop. That means I can quickly spot changes in their physical condition.
Odor Control and Automatic Waste Cleaning
As for odor, I keep the litter box in my bedroom. After my cats poop, I can set automatic cleaning in the phone app.

and the litter box starts working on a schedule. The waste compartment underneath is completely separated from the top. So there isn't a terrible smell. I usually empty it about once every five days, with no problems.
Simple Cleaning and Maintenance
As for cleaning, I think the open-top design is absolutely amazing. It doesn't have any of the hard-to-clean corners that enclosed models do. This is what the litter box looked like after I'd used it for a week. You can see exactly where the litter compartment is dirty. A wipe with a wet wipe gets it clean. After using it for a month or two, for a deep clean, remove the two side pieces, and you can see that the bottom of the bowl is a little dirty.
Just wipe the base with a wet wipe. You can simply lift out the litter compartment, so you can rinse it and leave it to dry in the sun. It's very easy to clean. As a woman, I have no trouble handling it.
Litter Tracking and the Control Mat
Of course, I did notice one drawback: it tracks litter pretty easily. But this is a problem that you can't avoid, whether you have an open-top or a closed design. Neakasa provided a litter-trapping mat, and you can really tell that there is much less litter on the floor. You can pour the collected litter back in, which helps save litter. If you have a short-legged cat, you can also add a litter-trapping step.

Compatible Bags and Easy Waste Removal
Its waste bags don't have to be custom-made for it to work. There's no bundled purchase requirement, which is really nice. The pull-out design lets you remove the clumps in one second. No more holding your breath while scooping and throwing away litter.
App Records, Cat Recognition, and Peace of Mind
Its app is also very simple.

My two cats weigh different amounts, so it can automatically tell which cat is using it. Even when I'm away on a business trip, I can keep track of what my cats are up to. That gives me real peace of mind.

The owner identifies the video product as the first-generation Neakasa M1, while the current official US and EU listings identify the regional product as the updated Neakasa M1 Plus. The owner's M1 experience should not be treated as a test of the Plus model's newer sealing, leak-prevention or sensor features.

What the owner actually tested
The owner used the first-generation Neakasa M1 for one month with two cats. Her account covers an open-top enclosure, scheduled app cleaning, roughly five-day waste emptying, visible litter-compartment cleaning and automatic recognition based on the cats' different weights. These are owner observations, not a test of the current M1 Plus.
Open access, odor and litter tracking
The owner's main usability benefit is the open top: she says her cats can stand fully upright and that she can inspect their waste more directly. She kept the unit in a bedroom and reported no severe odor, attributing that experience to the separated waste compartment and scheduled cleaning. This remains a single household observation.
Litter tracking is the clear trade-off in her account. She found that litter was easily carried onto the floor, although she considered this difficult to avoid with either open or enclosed designs. She reported that the supplied litter mat reduced the amount on the floor and that she returned collected litter to the box.
Cleaning, waste handling and regional differences
The owner's cleaning routine is hands-on: she wipes the base and visible dirt with wet wipes, removes the litter compartment for rinsing and drying, and removes two side pieces for a deeper clean after one or two months. Her account supports easy access on the original M1, but it does not establish the cleaning behavior of the M1 Plus.
For current regional buyers, both official listings identify the Neakasa M1 Plus rather than the first-generation M1. The EU listing specifies an 11.23 L waste capacity, 7.17 L litter capacity, support for clumping litter, and a 24-month manufacturing-defect guarantee; non-clumping wood pellets are unsuitable. Confirm the selected US or EU bundle and local support terms at checkout.
The current EU M1 Plus listing also describes Pull & Wrap waste disposal, six infrared-sensor sets, an added odor-sealing strip and a leak-prevention layer. Those are Plus-generation specifications, not features verified by the owner's first-generation M1 review, so buyers should not use the owner’s cleaning experience to predict the updated model.
The owner valued ordinary waste bags, a pull-out waste drawer and a simple app, and she says the system identified her two cats by their different weights. The supplied official regional evidence confirms app monitoring and Pull & Wrap disposal for M1 Plus, but it does not independently verify her bag-compatibility or cat-recognition results.
