Neakasa M1 Plus: three months of odor control, leak checks and travel
I used the Neakasa M1 Plus for over three months with my 6 kg cat and found odor control and leak resistance reassuring, though daily care still matters.
The most troublesome part of keeping a cat is dealing with the litter! Every day when I came home from work, the smell sometimes filled the whole room, and cleaning up after occasional diarrhea was even more frustrating. When traveling or going away on business, I also worried about having nobody to look after my cat's toileting. Some time ago, I followed the trend and got the 宜宝 M1+ open-top automatic litter box. I have now used it for a little over three months, so I want to share my real experience of whether an automatic litter box is actually useful.
The large open-top design gives my 6 kg (about 13 lb), fairly large cat plenty of room to turn around. Six sets of infrared presence sensors plus weight sensing provide two layers of protection: whenever my cat approaches or is inside the box, the machine immediately stops operating. The incomplete-gear design also always leaves an opening, which is especially important.
The odor control is excellent! The litter compartment has an odor-sealing strip that locks in smells without gaps. After my cat uses the box, it cleans automatically, and I basically cannot smell anything from the enclosed waste compartment. I can pull and draw the waste bag closed to package it without dirtying my hands, so there is no direct-contact scooping.
The litter boxes I used before often leaked urine through their gaps, which made cleaning very troublesome. The 宜宝 M1+ has upgraded to a food-storage-container-style sealing structure and a gap-free litter compartment. After three months of use, I have not experienced a urine leak.
The app displays my cat's toileting data in real time, can identify multiple cats, and is compatible with several types of litter, which is particularly convenient. With the 11-liter large-capacity waste compartment, I am planning to go away for a few days around New Year's and should not need to trouble friends with coming over to help.
If you are also a cat owner who dislikes hassle, or often travel and worry about nobody looking after your cat, I think this litter box is genuinely worth considering. Since using it, I feel that the happiness of keeping a cat has improved quite a bit.

The owner identifies the used product as the China-market 宜宝 M1+, an open-top automatic litter box, but does not provide a complete model number or establish the exact relationship between that unit and regional bundles. Official regional material identifies a Neakasa M1 Plus in the US, Canada, UK and EU; its hardware, bundle contents and performance should not automatically be assumed identical to the owner's unit.

These official regional specifications help interpret the owner’s description but do not verify that her China-market unit has identical specifications.
What the regional M1 Plus specifications establish
The owner describes six groups of infrared presence sensing and weight sensing. For the EU Neakasa M1 Plus, the official comparison specifies six pairs of infrared sensors and four weight sensors, alongside an open-top system and a supported cat range of 1–15 kg. The owner's approximately 6 kg cat falls within that published EU range, but her individual experience remains a report from the China-market unit.
The EU model lists 7.17 L of litter space and 11.23 L of waste capacity. The owner's stated 11 L waste-drawer observation is therefore broadly consistent in scale with the EU specification, but capacity is a regional product fact, not proof that her unit uses exactly the same drawer or that it can safely run unattended for several days.
Odor and urine-leak claims need the right qualification
The owner reports that the sealed waste compartment greatly reduced detectable odor and that she experienced no urine leakage during three months of use. Those are useful observations from her cat, litter and cleaning routine, not a universal performance guarantee. The US official material describes improved sealing as up to 95% leakage prevention under stated testing, so buyers should not read it as protection against every leak.
The official regional product material supports clumping, scoopable litter and says non-clumping litter is prohibited. This matters when comparing the owner's claim that the unit works with several litter types: the compatible options still need to meet the manufacturer's litter requirements for the local model.
Travel convenience does not replace daily checks
The owner expects the large waste compartment to make a few days away around New Year's easier and says the app provides toileting data and multi-cat identification. The official EU material presents the manufacturer’s interval of up to 14 days conditionally. Daily checks of the cat and drawer remain sensible care; that care advice is an editorial recommendation. A larger drawer can reduce emptying frequency, but it is not a substitute for daily animal care.
For kittens or cats below 1 kg, the US FAQ says automatic cleaning should be disabled and cleaning supervised in Kitten Mode. Buyers should therefore check the local model's weight guidance before relying on automatic operation, especially with a small or newly adopted cat.
Open-top access and cleaning considerations
The owner's cat is reported to turn around comfortably in the large open-top chamber, and the owner values the mechanism's remaining opening. The EU M1 Plus lists a 35.2 cm entry height, which gives a local physical reference for access, but the source does not provide the cat's body measurements or establish how every cat will respond to this design.
The owner's hands-off bagging observation concerns the waste-bag setup shown in her account. Regional bundles can differ, and the US evidence specifically identifies an M1 Plus with Step Bundle while noting that exact regional hardware and bundle identity are not established. Confirm the included step, bags and other accessories for the market and bundle being purchased.
