NETGEAR Orbi 750 RBR750: KPN and VLAN 6 setup notes for Orbi 770 buyers
I bought an Orbi 750 for attic Wi-Fi, then couldn't get online with KPN. In my setup, changing the PPPoE and VLAN settings finally got it connected.
Thanks to AI, I ended up becoming the network administrator.
The Wi-Fi signal in my home's attic was weak, with dead spots. I bought an Orbi 750 series system because I planned to set up a mesh network.
I never expected the long journey to get stuck at the very first step: after connecting the main router to the KPN modem, I had no internet at all!
After asking AI and tinkering for quite a while, I boiled it down to two key tips.
First, open 192.168.1.1 in a web browser, access the administrator interface, and choose manual setup.
PPPoE settings:
PPPoE needs to be enabled, but the username and password can be arbitrary. For example, username: kpn; password: kpn.
VLAN settings:
The VLAN ID must be set to 6. This is the crucial point!
Once I completed these two steps, I instantly had internet!

The owner describes an Orbi 750 series system, while the configuration screenshots and network map identify the router as RBR750. The official material confirms the RBR750/RBS750 hardware family, but the KPN evidence does not establish the owner's upstream topology. The owner succeeded with VLAN ID 6, but that result should not be treated as a universal KPN setting.

What the owner actually configured
The owner bought the Orbi 750 series to address weak attic Wi-Fi and dead spots, then found that connecting the main router to the KPN modem did not produce internet access. The owner later reported success after enabling PPPoE and setting VLAN ID 6 through the web interface at 192.168.1.1.
The supplied app screenshot is consistent with the owner's reported outcome: it shows an internet connection followed by an RBR750 router and two satellites. That confirms the author's displayed network state after setup, but it is not a performance test of coverage, speed or stability.
Do not copy the VLAN setting without checking the connection
The owner succeeded with VLAN ID 6 on this KPN installation, but the source does not identify the upstream topology, so this should not be treated as a universal KPN setting. KPN's official guidance distinguishes connection types and directs users to connection-specific technical settings; the supplied source does not prove whether its upstream device is an ONT, bridge or routed gateway.
Before reproducing the setup, identify whether the Orbi is acting as the ISP-facing router or sits behind an existing router. The Orbi manual describes access-point mode behind an existing modem-router: connect the Orbi Internet port to the existing router's LAN port and obtain an address from it. That is a different topology from configuring PPPoE and VLAN settings on the Orbi itself.
PPPoE credentials and practical setup limits
The owner says the PPPoE username and password can be arbitrary, using kpn for both fields. KPN's supplied connection guidance says that manual PPPoE credentials may be arbitrary but must not be empty. Treat this as setup guidance for the documented KPN context, not proof that the same values apply to another provider or connection type.
The owner's procedure uses the browser administration interface and manual setup rather than establishing that the Orbi app can perform the same ISP configuration. Buyers should confirm access to the web interface and keep the existing modem or gateway arrangement clear before changing settings, because the correct steps depend on the network topology.
Regional alternatives are not automatic replacements
The RBR750/RBS750 manual supports identifying the owner's Orbi 750 hardware, while the US and UK Orbi 770 Series RBE772 pages describe a related, newer alternative rather than the same product. The RBE772 lists Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 Gig ports; identical setup menus, behaviour and satellite compatibility with the Orbi 750 remain unconfirmed.
For a local purchase, match the product to the relevant market and verify router-versus-access-point operation and ISP requirements separately. The owner's successful RBR750 configuration is useful evidence for that installation, but it does not establish that a US or UK Orbi 770 kit will accept the same KPN procedure.
