Ninja Crispi Pro vs Philips XXL: dishwasher appeal, heavier handling

I swapped my Philips XXL for a Ninja Crispi Pro to cut down on washing up. But the heavy glass basket makes adding food mid-cook surprisingly awkward.

Why I switched to glass

I followed the trend and bought a Ninja Crispi Pro air fryer, mainly because it can go in the dishwasher.

Compared with my previous Philips, that was the attraction. With the Philips I had to remove the cooking mesh and scrub the basket after every use. Over time the coating deteriorated, and some stains still wouldn’t scrub off. It was a huge hassle.

But the downsides are pretty obvious too. The whole glass basket is heavy. I can’t pull it out with one hand, and adding an ingredient partway through is particularly inconvenient.

There’s a lot of friction between the glass basket and the sealing ring around the heating assembly, while the machine itself slides quite easily on the table. Every time I insert or remove the basket, the air fryer moves around on the worktop with it.

I mostly cook vegetables, chips and chicken nuggets, choosing the temperature and time fairly casually, so I won’t say much about cooking performance.

Choosing for everyday use

The removable glass container attracted this Crispi Pro owner and is also central to the AS101 family (US) and AS101UKGY (UK). The owner’s tradeoff is particularly practical: the appeal of dishwasher cleaning came with more weight to handle whenever they wanted to add food.

SharkNinja’s AS101 guidance for Singapore says its glass containers are dishwasher-safe and should cool gradually to room temperature before washing. For US or UK purchases, follow the manual supplied with the exact regional model. Cooling and finding a safe place for the container remain part of the cleanup routine.

Try handling the container with both hands before buying if weight or grip is a concern. Check where you can safely set it down beside the appliance and how often your recipes require adding ingredients midway. The owner’s report of the base sliding is about their machine and counter; check that your own unit stands securely according to its manual.

This account supports a comparison of cleanup and handling. The owner explicitly avoids evaluating cooking performance, so it cannot establish that either air fryer cooks better.
