Shokz second-generation clip-on earbuds: upgrade notes for OpenDots 2 and OpenDots ONE buyers
I bought Shokz second-generation clip-on earbuds after using the first generation for over a year; they sound louder, crisper and more three-dimensional.
I am a loyal Shokz user. I used the first-generation clip-on earbuds for more than a year, and bought the second generation when it came out. The two generations look very similar, but the second generation delivers a clearly noticeable improvement in sound: compared with the first generation, the audio is louder, crisper and more three-dimensional. Battery life is also very good; I usually go several days between charges. They barely feel noticeable on my ears, too. The first generation offers very good value for money, but if you have high audio-quality requirements, go straight for the second generation!

The owner noticed the upgrade mainly in sound
The owner's main reason to choose the second generation is its audible improvement rather than a radically different appearance. They describe the newer pair as louder, crisper and more three-dimensional, while saying the two generations look very similar. This is a personal comparison, not a standardized test.
For US buyers, the official OpenDots 2 page lists upgraded Dolby Audio, but that specification does not independently verify the owner's listening result. If sound quality is the deciding factor, the owner's experience supports choosing the newer generation as a subjective reference; the source does not provide prices or a measured comparison.
Battery and comfort fit low-maintenance daily use
The owner says the second-generation earbuds usually go several days between charges in their routine and feel barely noticeable on the ears. The post does not state listening hours, volume, charging-case capacity in practice or the exact number of days, so this should be treated as a personal usage observation rather than a battery-life test.
Shokz's US OpenDots 2 listing claims up to 10 hours per charge and up to 40 hours with the case, plus wireless charging and IP57 earbud resistance. The US OpenDots ONE listing gives the same claimed battery figures but IP54 protection, so regional buyers should check the exact model and local service coverage rather than assume the owner's first-generation unit matches either US SKU.
Which generation makes more sense?
The owner considers the first generation very good value for money, but recommends the second generation for listeners who prioritize audio quality. Because the source gives no prices, the value judgment cannot be converted into a current price comparison; buyers should weigh the local price difference against how important the reported sound improvement is to them.
The two official US references also differ in protection ratings: OpenDots 2 is listed at IP57, while OpenDots ONE is listed at IP54. These are published regional specifications, not evidence that the owner's Chinese-market pairs have identical ratings, and exact Chinese-US model equivalence remains unconfirmed.
