Shokz OpenDots ONE E310 vs my noise-cancelling AirPods: notes for AirPods 4 ANC buyers

I compared Shokz OpenDots ONE E310 with my noise-cancelling AirPods. The clip-on pair felt light and breathable; AirPods paired more smoothly and isolated subway noise better.

Shokz · Shokz OpenDots ONE clip-on earbuds E310

Advantages: They feel feather-light and effortless to wear—great news for people with oily ears in summer. I use Apple products, and AirPods still have the smoother connection; Shokz comes second. Personally, I think the clip-on design is breathable, so the music may not feel like it is entering the ear. I tried several custom modes with songs that have obvious highs and lows, but both the bass and standard sound quality felt slightly behind the AirPods' sense of surround sound. For someone like me who enjoys walking alone while listening to music, the experience was not especially satisfying. On the subway in particular, outside noise easily gets in.

AirPods with noise cancellation still have the old problem: they are not breathable, and my ears become somewhat uncomfortable after wearing them for a long time. Otherwise, the sound quality and noise-cancelling performance are faultless. The noise cancellation really feels as if it pulls me into another dimension.

Summary: For earphones in the same price range, consider the former if you often spend time at the gym. Both are good.

Fit and ambient sound

The owner's main comfort distinction is structural: the OpenDots ONE's clip-on, open-ear design felt light and breathable, while the owner's noise-cancelling AirPods became uncomfortable during extended wear because they did not feel breathable. The owner also found that subway noise entered the Shokz easily, so its comfort advantage comes with less isolation in loud environments.

For regional context, Shokz describes the US OpenDots ONE as clip-on open-ear earbuds, while Apple lists UK AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation as a separate model with ANC and Transparency mode. These official descriptions support the design and feature distinction, but do not prove that the owner's Chinese E310 and the US OpenDots ONE share identical hardware.

Connection and sound

The owner uses Apple products and found AirPods' connection smoother, with Shokz second. After trying several OpenDots ONE custom modes with music containing prominent high and low frequencies, the owner felt that both its bass and standard sound quality lagged behind the AirPods' surround-like presentation. This is a personal comparison, not a controlled test.

The official US OpenDots ONE page lists Dolby Audio, while Apple's UK reference identifies ANC and Transparency mode for AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. Those specifications help explain why the products target different listening priorities, but they cannot convert the owner's subjective sound comparison into a general performance ranking.

Who should consider which one

The owner recommends considering the Shokz for people who frequently go to the gym, while describing both products as good in the same price range. That recommendation reflects the owner’s comfort and breathability experience, not a verified exercise or durability test. The official US OpenDots ONE page lists up to 10 hours per charge, up to 40 hours with the case and IP54 earbud protection, but those specifications belong to the cited US product page and may not establish the Chinese unit’s exact configuration.

The US OpenDots ONE is officially rated for up to 10 hours per charge and up to 40 hours with its case, with IP54 protection for the earbuds. The UK AirPods 4 ANC reference also lists IP54 protection. These are regional official specifications, not measurements from the owner's comparison, and the source does not provide local prices.
