I Fried an Egg in My ZWILLING Stainless Steel Pan With the Heat Off
Reviewed: ZWILLING stainless steel pan, series and size unspecifiedRegional reference: ZWILLING Spirit 3-Ply 3 qt stainless steel sauté pan 64097-240 (US)
I heated my ZWILLING stainless steel pan, turned the heat off, waited three minutes, and successfully fried an egg using residual heat alone.
- Heat the cold pan until drops of water bounce around like marbles.
- Spray in oil. As soon as an oil film forms, turn off the heat.
- Let the pan cool for three minutes, until it stops smoking (three to five minutes).
- Crack in the egg. Do not flip it immediately—I did not turn the heat back on either. Wait for it to set.
- Once one side is cooked, flip it to cook the other side.
It worked on my first try.

The source identifies the cookware only as a ZWILLING stainless steel pan; its series, size and exact construction remain unknown. The US ZWILLING Spirit 3-Ply 3 qt stainless steel sauté pan is a related regional product, not a confirmed match, so its specifications cannot be assigned to the pan used here.

- What to know
- The owner used an unidentified ZWILLING stainless steel pan. The US Spirit 3-Ply 3 qt stainless steel sauté pan 64097-240 is a related uncoated regional option with an aluminium-core three-ply body, induction compatibility and dishwasher support, but it is not confirmed as the source pan; apply the owner’s method cautiously.
What the owner actually tested
The owner’s method uses stored heat rather than continuing low heat: after heating the empty pan until water droplets moved like marbles, they sprayed oil, switched the heat off, waited about three minutes, and added one egg without restarting the burner. The egg was left to set before being flipped. This was one successful first attempt; the source does not provide a measured pan temperature, oil quantity, total cooking time or a result across different eggs, pans or hobs.
That sequence differs from ZWILLING’s general stainless-steel guidance, which describes medium preheating, oil distribution and waiting for food to release before flipping. The manufacturer guide also lists delicate egg dishes among less-suitable uses and suggests nonstick cookware for them; it does not validate this specific three-to-five-minute heat-off routine for every setup.

What to check before buying a regional model
The US Spirit 3-Ply 3 qt sauté pan is officially listed as an uncoated three-layer stainless steel pan with an aluminium core, a 9.45-inch upper diameter, a helper handle, a glass lid and support for all hobs including induction. It is also listed as dishwasher-safe, suitable for metal utensils and oven-safe up to 500°F. Those features belong to the US reference model, not necessarily to the owner’s unidentified pan.
For a local purchase, confirm the exact series, diameter, construction, hob compatibility and care instructions before treating this experience as transferable. The source does not establish whether the pan used has the Spirit model’s three-ply aluminium-core construction or matching heat retention, so the owner’s heat-off result should be read as a setup-specific demonstration rather than a guaranteed stainless-steel egg method.
