Bambu Lab A1 Combo: Two Months of Easy Multicolor 3D Printing
I used the Bambu Lab A1 Combo for two months: four-color printing was easy to start, detailed, and convenient, though it wasted some filament.
Bambu Lab A1 AMS Version: Multicolor printing freedom lets even beginners explore their creative limits!
As a beginner obsessed with creative design, I agonized over the decision before buying the Bambu Lab A1 AMS multicolor set. After using it for two months, I was completely won over. It has been my best-value technology purchase of the year.
I have to praise the unboxing and installation experience first: you do not need any professional knowledge. The compartmentalized packaging was exceptionally precise, with the main printer, AMS Lite multicolor module and tool kit held securely, arriving without any transport damage. The accessory package was very complete, including a build-plate sticker and lubricant, so beginners do not need to buy extra supplies. Installing the AMS module was very simple: align it with the printer interface and gently click it into place. The spool holders attach directly to the gantry, and feeding the filament through the tubes was smooth. Following the manual, I finished everything in 20 minutes, which was much easier than I expected.
The AMS multicolor function is genuinely addictive. It supports automatic switching between four colors, so I no longer had to pause the printer and change filament by hand; printing complex color schemes became almost hands-free. I used it to print a rainbow unicorn, a compartmentalized storage box and cartoon toys that my child liked. The color transitions were especially natural, the joins were neat without color bleeding, and details at a 0.2 mm layer height were clear and crisp. Even the edges of small patterns had no rough fringes. The biggest surprise was Bambu’s RFID filament recognition: when I changed between different brands of PLA and PETG, it automatically adapted the settings, so I did not have to guess at adjustments and succeeded on the first print.
The smart features and print quality were both excellent. Fifteen minutes after switching it on, automatic bed leveling, vibration compensation and flow calibration were complete, with no manual fiddling required. It genuinely felt ready to print out of the box. The claimed 500 mm/s high-speed printing was impressive: a 15 cm-tall Eiffel Tower was finished in three hours. Its cable-stayed structure had no layer breaks, the surface was smooth and refined, and it felt substantial in my hand. Operating noise was only in the 40-plus-decibel range, quieter than a refrigerator, so printing in my study late at night did not disturb my family. The phone app also let me monitor progress remotely when I was out, and power-loss recovery was a lifesaver: after power returned, the printer resumed precisely without wasting filament.
Bambu’s community ecosystem also deserves praise. The official model community has a huge number of free models, and experienced creators have already prepared multicolor printing plans, so I did not need to model or adjust parameters myself. I could download a model and print it directly. The storage boxes and camera protective case I printed were not only attractive but also particularly durable; even when dropped on the floor, they did not break easily. Their practicality was excellent.
My only small disappointment was that multicolor printing produced a small amount of filament waste. Compared with the hassle and failure rate of changing filament by hand, however, I found the waste completely acceptable. At a price in the 2,000-plus range, the multicolor set felt unbeatable for value. It can meet the needs of beginners, family creative projects and small maker projects alike.
If you want to leave monotonous single-color printing behind but are worried that the operation will be complicated, the Bambu Lab A1 AMS version is an easy choice to recommend. It lowers the barrier to multicolor printing while bringing plenty of creative enjoyment and a sense of achievement. I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves creative projects.

The owner calls the printer an A1 AMS multicolor set; the official US and UK listings identify the corresponding bundle as the Bambu Lab A1 Combo with AMS Lite, while the EU store page is for Hungary. The owner’s China-market package, firmware and warranty terms remain unconfirmed.

What the owner’s configuration establishes
The owner used an A1 multicolor configuration with an AMS module for two months, but does not give a full model number. The official US, UK and Hungary listings separately identify the A1 and the A1 Combo with AMS Lite, so local buyers should match the bundle name and included accessory rather than assume every A1 includes multicolor hardware.
The owner reports a 20-minute setup and a 15-minute initial calibration sequence, including automatic leveling, vibration compensation and flow calibration. These are the owner’s observations, while the regional listings independently describe automatic calibration; the reported times and hands-off result should not be treated as guaranteed setup times.
Multicolor use and filament choice
The owner found four-color automatic switching more convenient than pausing to change filament manually and accepted some filament waste in return. One AMS Lite supports up to four colors, so the owner’s multicolor workflow is relevant to the listed Combo bundles.
The owner says RFID settings worked when changing between different brands of PLA and PETG. The official listings only establish RFID synchronization for Bambu filaments, not automatic recognition of third-party filament brands. Local buyers should therefore treat the third-party claim as an owner report and confirm settings themselves.
The official regional pages list PLA and PETG as ideal materials and do not recommend ABS, ASA, PC, PA or fiber-reinforced filament. That makes the owner’s PLA and PETG examples a supported use direction, but the review does not establish results with the materials the regional pages advise against.
Speed, detail and remote monitoring
The owner reports printing a 15 cm-tall Eiffel Tower in three hours at a claimed 500 mm/s, with intact cable-stayed details and a smooth surface. This is one owner’s result for one model and print setup, not an independent speed benchmark or a guarantee for other geometries.
The owner also reports noise in the 40-plus-decibel range, remote progress monitoring through a phone app and accurate power-loss recovery. These observations may help buyers who print in a study or leave jobs unattended, but the supplied official regional evidence does not verify the measured noise level, app behavior or recovery result.
The A1’s official build volume is 256 × 256 × 256 mm, so a model described locally as 15 cm tall fits within the listed height on paper. Actual clearance, orientation and multicolor purge requirements still depend on the chosen model and slicer settings.
Buying checks by market
In the US and UK, the official pages list A1 and A1 Combo as variants, with the Combo adding AMS Lite. In Hungary, the localized EU listing likewise offers the Combo with AMS Lite, while final VAT and shipping vary by destination. Confirm the exact bundle, local service terms and included accessories before ordering.
For a cross-border purchase, compare the local price, package contents, firmware and warranty before ordering. The owner’s China-market purchase does not establish the current US, UK or Hungarian price or local support terms.
