Fitbit Air after a week: easy wear, missed lifting and food-log errors
I wore Fitbit Air for a week and found it comfortable enough to keep on, with accurate sleep tracking but slow AI and unreliable food logging.
Its biggest advantage is that you can forget you are wearing it!
As a long-time Apple Watch Series 6 user, I still do not want to wear even the smallest watch face for long periods. I also look at my phone frequently, so I do not really need many watch notifications.
But Fitbit Air takes less than two hours to charge and lasts a week, so I have no desire to take it off except when showering.
Its sleep monitoring is extremely accurate.
I have seen people say that it is not accurate for naps.
In my case, it could detect that I stayed awake for an hour and then went back to sleep.
I do not have a habit of tapping start for workouts.
It can detect slow uphill walking, but not strength training.
AI Coach can be used directly with Google's AI Pro.
However, it is far from intelligent and responds very slowly.
When logging food, it sometimes creates duplicate entries, misses entries or suddenly loses the session's memory.
Overall, apart from the average app experience, almost everything else is extremely good.
It provides access to data, the data is accurate, and there is no additional expensive subscription fee; the hardware itself is also inexpensive.
I will leave the algorithms and app to keep improving.

The low-maintenance fit is the main advantage
The owner says Fitbit Air is comfortable enough to wear continuously apart from showering, while their Apple Watch Series 6 was difficult to wear for long periods. That makes continuous tracking—not notifications—the central benefit in this account, especially for someone who checks a phone frequently.
Google lists Fitbit Air at 12 g with the band, with up to seven days per charge and 90-minute full charging. This owner liked the resulting week-long wear routine, compared with an Apple Watch Series 6 they disliked keeping on.
The UK model shares those headline specifications. It still uses the phone app to view records, so switching from Apple Watch means keeping Google Health available even while reducing wrist notifications.
Sleep tracking worked better for this owner than workout tracking
The owner describes sleep monitoring as extremely accurate and reports that Fitbit Air detected an hour awake followed by more sleep. That is one person's observation from their own sleep pattern, not a clinical validation or a general accuracy finding.
For activity, the owner normally does not start workouts manually. Fitbit Air detected slow uphill walking but failed to detect strength training in this account, so buyers who need reliable lifting records should not assume that automatic detection will cover their routine.
AI and food logging are the unfinished parts
The owner reports that AI Coach can be used with Google's AI Pro, but found the responses slow and the system not very intelligent. Google describes Health Coach as an informational feature rather than medical advice and warns that AI can make mistakes, so it should not be treated as a clinical tool.
Food logging was less dependable in practice: the owner saw duplicate records, missing records and lost session context. Google says Health Coach supports meal logging and editing existing logs, but that feature description does not establish error-free logging, so users should review each confirmed entry rather than assume the record is complete.
Google lists Coach in countries including the US, Canada, UK, Germany and France, but not mainland China or Hong Kong. Hardware availability and an existing AI subscription do not by themselves establish eligibility.
Check the data and care requirements before buying
The owner did not face an additional expensive subscription in their setup and reports using AI Pro for Coach. Before making the same calculation, check whether your own plan specifically includes Google Health Premium; the owner’s arrangement is not a universal entitlement.
Fitbit Air is rated for 50 m water resistance, but Google advises removing and fully drying a wet or sweaty band before wearing it again. That matters for the owner's near-continuous wearing pattern: shower use and post-exercise wear should not be treated as permission to leave the band wet against the skin.
