Google Fitbit Air: three-day owner notes on fit, sleep and regional AI Coach access

My Fitbit Air battery fell from 100% to 76% in three days. Cycling and walking were detected automatically, but strength training needed manual entry.

I have been using the Fitbit Air continuously for three days, and it is still in the data-calibration period. Here is a brief first impression.

  1. Barely noticeable to wear: It is light and small, and I barely notice it while wearing it.
  2. Smart automatic workout recognition: It correctly recognized cycling, aerobic brisk walking and running without requiring me to add them manually (p2). However, it could not recognize low-intensity strength training, so I had to add that workout type manually. After adding the workout type, start time and duration, the system synced the heart-rate and calorie-burning data from the specified period to that workout type (p1).
  3. Sleep tracking: It is accurate most of the time, but on Saturday I stayed up late watching shows and actually went to sleep at 3 a.m. The system thought I had been in bed and asleep from 11:30 p.m., although it marked me as awake. How should I describe that? It could be considered correct, I suppose, but I was scrolling in bed, not awake while sleeping...
  4. Battery: After three days of use, the battery had dropped from 100% to 76%. I estimate that one charge should last about seven days.
  5. The magic: Although my Google account is American, my magic location is Hong Kong, so I still cannot use AI Coach. To use AI Coach, it seems that both the account and the magic location need to be set to the United States.
  6. Gemini: Since I cannot use AI Coach, I can feed screenshots of the app interface to Gemini, which can also provide some data interpretation and suggestions.

Google Health was updated today, fixing the earlier problem of mixed Chinese and English text (p3).

The above reflects only my personal experience after three days of use. I will update this after the data-calibration period ends.

The data calibration still has four days to go. I will see what happens after those four days.

Models in your region

The US and UK Google Store pages list Google Fitbit Air under the same product name and give matching headline specifications, including up to seven days of battery life and 12 g with the band. That does not establish identical account access, accessories or warranty terms; Google’s Health Coach support list includes the US and UK but not Hong Kong or mainland China.

What the three-day account shows

The owner’s account covers three continuous days while calibration was still in progress, with four days remaining at the time of writing. It therefore records early recognition, sleep and battery behavior rather than a completed calibration result; whether later data would change those observations is unknown.

For workouts, the owner reported automatic recognition of cycling, aerobic brisk walking and running, while low-intensity strength training required manual entry. Once entered, the app attached the selected period’s heart-rate and calorie-burning data to that workout, which is useful if your routine includes activities the device does not recognize automatically.

Fit, battery and sleep

Google lists Fitbit Air at 12 g with its band in the US and UK. This owner found it light and barely noticeable from the first three days, making it promising for someone who dislikes wearing a watch overnight.

The owner’s battery fell from 100% to 76% over three days and led to an estimate of about seven days per charge. Google’s US and UK listings advertise up to seven days, but the source account does not include charging conditions or a completed battery cycle; the result should be treated as an early personal observation, not a confirmed runtime test.

Sleep tracking was described as accurate most of the time, but the owner’s late-night example shows a practical limitation: the app placed them in bed from 11:30 p.m. and marked that period as awake even though they were watching shows and did not sleep until 3 a.m. The account does not establish overall sleep-tracking accuracy.

AI Coach depends on region

The owner had a US Google account but reported that AI Coach remained unavailable with Hong Kong as the location. Google’s official support page lists Health Coach in the US, UK and other supported countries, but not Hong Kong or mainland China; the owner’s workaround experience does not prove that changing an account or network location will provide official access.

Google describes Health Coach as an informational feature that can help log meals and workouts with text, photos and files, while warning that AI can make mistakes and that its guidance is not medical advice. If this feature affects your purchase, confirm eligibility for your account and country rather than relying only on the watch or band hardware.

The owner used screenshots from the Google Health app with Gemini instead and reported receiving data interpretations and suggestions. That is the owner’s alternative workflow, not evidence that Gemini provides the same feature, data access or support as Health Coach.

App language and care details

The owner reported that a Google Health update fixed an earlier issue with mixed Chinese and English text. Because the account describes one app version and one update, it does not establish that every regional release or language setting behaves the same way.

The US and UK model supports Android 11+ or iOS 16.4+. For syncing, enable Bluetooth LE and location permission and make sure the phone has internet access, particularly if you use an older phone or restrict app permissions.
