Google Fitbit Air: a two-week screen-free owner review
I wore Google Fitbit Air for two weeks and found it light enough to forget, with week-long battery life and useful sleep data—though its fabric band gets wet.
I received it on September 29, set it up, and fully charged it.
I wore it for exactly two weeks: September 30 to October 6, then October 7 to October 13.
Advantages
- Light: It is genuinely light. I wore it slightly loose, and it felt completely unnoticeable; I would forget it was there.
- Battery life: A single charge easily lasted a week, and charging was extremely fast. It reached full charge in one hour.
Data
I do not have an Apple Watch or any other fitness band or smartwatch. I mainly bought this band because it has no screen. There are already too many screens around, and I did not want another one. I mainly use it to check sleep data. I was not used to the Google Health interface at first, but after adjusting the data shown on the dashboard's first screen, I found it quite good.
Looking at two weeks of sleep data, it seemed fairly accurate to me. Personally, I think this data is only a reference, so it is best to look at it without becoming too fixated on precision. Overall, I still went to bed too late... but my sleep efficiency and quality were still very good.
Heart rate and step counts also seemed to line up. The step count was higher than Apple's Fitness records, especially at home, where it recorded my walking around while Apple Fitness generally did not.
Disadvantages
Because the band is fabric, it gets wet when I wash my face, so I try to take it off first. But once I took it off and forgot to put it back on. I completely forgot, so it recorded no steps or heart rate that day.
I also want to buy the Rye and Fog band colors, so I can match different band colors with different outfits and make it look better.

Models in your region
The US and UK Google Stores sell the same Fitbit Air family. This owner's two-week account is especially useful for someone choosing a screen-free sleep tracker, including the practical inconvenience of a wet fabric band.

What the two-week experience shows
During September 30–October 13, the owner found a slightly loose Fitbit Air easy to forget on the wrist. Its listed weight is 12 g with the band in the US and UK, making it worth considering if a larger watch feels intrusive overnight.
The owner bought Fitbit Air specifically to avoid another screen. Rearranging the Google Health dashboard made sleep data easier to check, a useful reminder to set up the phone view around the metrics you actually want.
The owner's two weeks of sleep data seemed fairly accurate to the owner, and heart-rate and step records appeared to line up with expectations. These are personal observations without a clinical or device-to-device accuracy test; Google also says heart-rate accuracy depends on physiology, placement, and movement. The higher step count than Apple Fitness occurred especially during walking around at home, so it is not a general accuracy verdict.
Battery and charging
The owner reported about a week from one charge and a full charge in one hour during this two-week use period. The US and UK specifications list up to seven days of battery life and 90 minutes for a full charge, so the owner's result is consistent with the advertised battery window but faster than the listed full-charge time. The source does not identify the charging level, charger, or exact charging conditions, so the one-hour result should not be treated as a repeatable specification.
The fabric-band trade-off
The fabric band became wet when the owner washed their face, and removing it once caused a full day without step or heart-rate records. Google advises removing and completely drying a wet or sweaty band before wearing it again. In practical terms, the band may need a place to dry and a reminder to put it back on; otherwise a short cleaning routine can create a data gap.
Rye and Fog were the owner's next choices for outfit matching. Google's US page identifies Rye with the Stephen Curry edition; check the exact band and buckle in the listing before buying a color separately.
Compatibility and regional service
For US and UK Fitbit Air, use Google Health with a Google account on Android 11+ or iOS 16.4+. Syncing also requires Bluetooth LE, internet access and location permission.
If you also want AI coaching, check Google Health Premium eligibility separately. Google's supported-country list includes the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Italy, while Hong Kong and mainland China are not listed.
