HarveyArc Water Softener Installation: An Early UK Owner Report

I arranged a HarveyArc installation after a home water-hardness reading of 320, with a separate filter offer and recurring salt and cartridge supplies.

Two weeks ago, a member of staff came to our home to test the water. Its hardness reached 320, which surprised us. We were quoted £2,171.50, and the installation is happening today.

The installer said he had worked for the company for four years and installed more than 400 systems a year. He said appointments were plentiful and that he often had to work Saturdays. More than 50 people work in just the company’s installation department.

By that calculation, quite a few households in the UK must have water softeners.

A neighbour previously told me that, after installing a water softener, their child no longer had eczema and they no longer had problems with limescale. They have used it for five years and have had a very good experience.

After spending several months in China and returning, I once again clearly noticed much more hair loss when washing my hair. The water in the UK is hard to describe; people who understand it, understand.

We already use a filter jug for cooking and drinking water, but we cannot avoid hard water for showers, laundry and the dishwasher.

This time, as well as installing the water softener, the salesperson gave us a free-installation offer for a hard-water filter. The original price was £254.96.

From now on, we only need to buy salt and filter cartridges. The hard-water filter cartridge needs to be replaced once a year.

I have just searched Xiaohongshu and learned that there is also a referral salt offer.

Since we have already started the installation, I do not know whether we can still receive it.

The UK quotation and product photograph identify the installed unit as a HarveyArc, although the source account does not provide a fuller configuration or serial number. Harvey identifies the UK HarveyArc as a non-electric twin-cylinder softener with WiFi i-Lid salt monitoring.

What the owner arranged

The owner’s package was quoted at £2,171.50 in the UK and covered the HarveyArc installation. The accompanying quotation also lists a Wi-Fi-enabled unit, a filter system, a chrome tap and complimentary salt blocks. The quotation itemises the softener and installation package, with the filter system, tap and initial salt listed separately; its £2,171.50 total applies to this household’s package rather than a general HarveyArc price.

The installation media shows plumbing work beneath the kitchen sink, with the cabinet opened and tools and fittings around the installer. That makes the owner’s experience useful for readers planning an under-sink installation, but it does not establish how long the work took or whether every home will need the same plumbing changes.

Softened water is not the same as drinking-water filtration

The owner already used a filter jug for cooking and drinking water and still wanted softened water for showers, laundry and the dishwasher. Harvey says its softener uses salt to regenerate resin and adds sodium through ion exchange; the manufacturer also says brine does not enter the household supply. A separate drinking-water tap is an available arrangement, but the source does not confirm how the owner’s new tap is plumbed.

Harvey distinguishes a filter from a softener: a generic filter does not by itself establish purified water or reverse-osmosis treatment. Harvey also excludes softened drinking water from infant feeds and medically prescribed low- or zero-sodium diets. Buyers with either requirement should confirm the drinking-water arrangement before installation.

Running supplies and unconfirmed health effects

The owner expects to keep buying salt and replacing the hard-water filter cartridge once a year. The post mentions a referral salt offer but leaves its eligibility unresolved because installation had already begun; readers should confirm current terms with the installer rather than assume the offer applies.

The owner reports noticeable hair loss after returning to the UK and repeats a neighbour’s claim that softened water was associated with a child’s eczema improving. These are individual observations and a second-hand claim; the source provides no medical assessment, controlled comparison or evidence that the softener caused either outcome.
