I repaired my Helinox Chair One after a leg snapped, replacing the broken tube with a 23 cm brass tube and reusing the elastic cord.

Background: During a May Day trip, a friend sat down on it after drinking and snapped the frame. I contacted several sellers on Taobao, but none would sell a single tube; they only offered a complete frame, or replacement parts from third-party factories. After thinking it over, I decided to take it apart and work out a repair myself. The replacement steps were as follows:

  1. I poured 100 ml of hot water into a disposable cup and soaked the rubber part of the chair leg for 30 seconds.
  2. I used needle-nose pliers to pull off the rubber foot. This exposed a raised piece resembling the front section of a pool cue. I pulled out the raised plastic piece and removed the knot in the internal elastic cord.
  3. I replaced it with a 23 cm brass tube with a 14 mm outside diameter. I tied the elastic cord to a bamboo skewer and passed it through the tube.
  4. After placing the elastic-cord knot into the plastic clip and loading it, I put the rubber foot back on and pressed it flat firmly.

I had originally considered spraying the replacement black, but once the chair back was installed, it did not look especially out of place. And so, on June 6, the world’s only limited-edition gold-right-leg Chair One was born.

P.S. I bought a 50 cm brass tube on Taobao for CNY 9.90 with free shipping and asked the seller to cut it into two 23 cm pieces, so I had one spare.
