Whisker Litter-Robot 4: two months with the Hopper and deep-cleaning chores

After two months, my Litter-Robot 4 has mostly ended daily scooping. The Hopper is handy, but stuck clumps and awkward deep cleaning still need my attention.

I bought the Litter-Robot 4 from Costco at the end of December. I had debated whether to buy the newly released 5, but after watching quite a few reviews, I still felt the Costco bundle offered better value, so I went ahead and bought it.

My adopted cat is very clever: after using it a few times, I was able to turn on scheduled cleaning. But the cat is also very mischievous and often goes over to bother the robot while it is working.

I have now been using it for two months, and overall I am still quite happy with the experience.

Pros

- It frees my hands, and I basically no longer need to scoop waste manually.

- With one cat, I can throw away the waste bag about once a week.

- The waste is sealed in well, so there are no unpleasant smells around the house.

- It feels very safe: when my cat curiously sticks its head inside, the robot automatically stops rotating.

- The app can show my cat's toilet visits.

- The Hopper's automatic litter refilling is very convenient. For a single-cat household, I add litter to the Hopper about once every two weeks.

Cons

- For a cat that likes to urinate close to the edge, urine clumps occasionally stick to the bottom.

- Sometimes the cleaning is not thorough enough, so I need to run a second cycle.

- Deep cleaning is rather troublesome.

- It carries out a little too much litter, although this may be because my cat likes to jump out.

- Using it on carpet requires buying a Carpet Tray separately.

Overall, it is still very convenient and well worth buying!

P.S. If you use the Hopper and find that it is wasting litter, you can try resetting the optimal litter level. The optimal litter level is not necessarily the robot's MAX fill line, and the manual does not explain this clearly. For the specific procedure, you can look at the pinned comment in my comments section.

The owner identifies the product as a Litter-Robot 4 bought through Costco, but does not state the purchase country or provide a full bundle configuration. The regional references below identify the same Whisker model in the US and UK; they do not prove the exact Costco package or its local terms.

Whisker Litter-Robot 4 Whisker Litter-Robot 4 (US) The US product page describes an enclosed rotating globe, sealed waste drawer, app visit and weight monitoring, and identifies LitterHopper as an optional automatic litter-refill accessory. The owner’s Costco bundle may include different accessories or terms.
Whisker Litter-Robot 4 Whisker Litter-Robot 4 (UK) The UK Litter-Robot 4 is the same model generation. The UK listing gives a 15 V DC device, a 40 by 40 cm entrance, a 10.9 kg empty weight and a 56 by 68.6 cm footprint. Local supply matters for the correct mains adapter and support; the owner’s Costco experience does not establish UK pricing or returns.

What the owner experienced

After two months, the owner's main benefit is reduced daily scooping: with one cat, the waste bag reportedly lasts about a week. The owner also reports good odor containment and an overall positive experience, but these observations come from one cat and one household rather than a controlled comparison.

The owner's cat adapted after several uses, allowing scheduled cleaning, although the cat sometimes interfered while the robot was operating. The owner also reports that the unit stopped rotating when the cat investigated the opening; the US manufacturer says automatic mode is for cats weighing at least 3 lb, while lighter kittens need supervised, powered-off use between manually initiated cycles.

Hopper use and litter consumption

The owner found the LitterHopper convenient and refilled it roughly every two weeks in a single-cat household. The official US listing describes LitterHopper as an optional automatic litter-refill accessory, so buyers should confirm whether their chosen bundle includes it rather than assuming every Litter-Robot 4 package does.

The owner warns that the Hopper may waste litter and suggests resetting the optimal litter level because it may not match the MAX fill line; the owner also says the manual is unclear and directs readers to a pinned comment for the procedure. This is an owner-reported workaround, not an independently verified setup instruction.

Cleaning limits and carpet placement

The owner's practical drawbacks are occasional urine clumps sticking to the bottom when the cat urinates near the edge, cleaning that sometimes needs a second cycle, and a deep-cleaning process the owner considers troublesome. These issues are tied to the owner's cat and use conditions, so they should not be read as a guaranteed failure on every LR4.

For deep cleaning, Whisker's instructions say not to immerse, spray or soak the electronic base or control panel. Wipe the base with a damp cloth, apply spray to the cloth away from the electronics, and reassemble only with the globe aligned and the bonnet securely latched.

Whisker Litter-Robot 4 · US / UK

The owner noticed litter being carried out and attributes this possibly to the cat jumping out. On carpet, the owner says an additional Carpet Tray is needed; the US manufacturer instead describes the tray as improving weight accuracy on carpet and says it is not required for basic operation. Buyers should distinguish tracking control or measurement support from a basic operating requirement.

US and UK buying checks

The owner's Costco purchase and bundle-value conclusion apply to that purchase, not automatically to other retailers or countries. The US reference confirms the same LR4 model and lists a one-year standard manufacturer warranty, while retailer returns follow the retailer's policy; check the exact bundle, accessory inclusion, warranty and return terms before buying.

For UK buyers, the manufacturer lists the same Litter-Robot 4 with a two-year standard warranty, a 56 by 68.6 cm footprint, a 10.9 kg empty weight and a 15 V DC device power specification. Prefer local supply to obtain the correct mains adapter and local purchase support; US bundle pricing and returns do not establish UK terms.

The official US product information requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for the connected features and describes app visit and weight monitoring. The owner's report confirms app-based toilet records, but does not test weight tracking or state the household's network conditions, so buyers should treat those as listed features rather than owner-verified results.
