Whisker Litter-Robot 4: two months of odor control and quiet cleaning
After two months with my Litter-Robot 4, I'm no longer scooping after every visit. Odors stay contained between weekly bag changes, but I miss having a camera.
Price: I followed a buying guide by uu on Xiaohongshu and paid a stated price of $942 (currency not identified) for everything shown in Figures 3 and 4, plus a LitterHopper that automatically adds litter. I honestly do not know whether that price was a bargain or a loss, but I do know that even if this automatic litter box cost $2,000, I would still save up to buy it.
Cat approval: At first, my kitten still preferred the old litter box, so I spent two weeks transitioning him. Once I put the old box away, he became very used to the new one. He was curious when the robot rotated to clean, but after a week it was no longer interesting to him. That is just a cat’s nature.
Human approval: I rate it five out of five.
Safety: So far, it seems very safe. The robot’s sensors are quite responsive: when they detect my kitten moving his head around at the entrance, the rotation stops immediately and does not continue until he has completely left. I had previously seen reports of kittens becoming trapped in automatic litter boxes, but I feel that people also cannot rule out being bitten by a venomous snake coming up through a drain while sitting on the toilet. All I can do is avoid brands of automatic litter boxes that have had problems reported.
Odor: Oh my goodness, it is incredibly effective. I went a whole week without cleaning the drawer that stores the waste, and there was basically no smell. I have not tried leaving it longer than that. When I empty it once a week, though, the smell is comparable to a biological weapon. Having one bad-smelling emptying session per week is still acceptable to me. The robot is simply excellent at containing odors. It also hides the smell thoroughly while my kitten is defecating, which is very friendly to people who are sensitive to odors.
Other points: I no longer have to worry that my cleanliness-obsessed kitten will refuse to use the toilet because I did not scoop urine or feces quickly enough. I also no longer have to scoop waste out after every use and put it in a trash can that then smells. I can accurately see changes in my kitten’s weight; it generally increases by 0.1 lb (about 45 g) every two days. Automatic litter refilling is also very helpful for people who need to be away from home for longer periods. It is very quiet, with so little noise that my kitten is not frightened. It has genuinely freed my hands, contributing about as much as a dishwasher or washing machine.
Drawback: There is no camera. Sometimes, when I want to know whether my kitten defecated or urinated, I have to inspect his bottom myself or wait for the litter box to rotate.

What the owner’s experience means in daily use
The owner’s strongest result is reduced contact with waste: after a two-week transition, the kitten accepted the new box, and the owner reported essentially no odor from the waste drawer for one week. This is one owner’s experience and was not tested beyond that interval; the drawer still smelled intensely when emptied. The owner also reported quiet operation and no fear response from the kitten.
The owner valued weight tracking and automatic litter replenishment, especially for periods away from home. Official US information confirms app visit and weight monitoring and identifies LitterHopper as an optional automatic refill accessory, so buyers should check whether the accessory is included rather than assuming every Litter-Robot 4 package has it.
Safety and kitten suitability
The owner observed the robot stopping when the kitten moved around the entrance and regarded its sensors as responsive. That is an individual observation rather than a guarantee against every incident; the owner’s broader advice was to avoid brands with reported automatic-litter-box problems. The owner does not describe a formal safety test.
For the US model, official guidance says automatic mode requires cats to weigh at least 3 lb, while lighter kittens need supervised, powered-off use between manually initiated cycles. This matters when applying the owner’s kitten experience to a younger or smaller cat, even though the owner does not state the kitten’s weight at the start of the transition.
Camera limitation and what the app can tell you
The owner’s specific complaint is that the product has no camera, making it impossible to visually confirm whether the kitten urinated or defecated without checking in person or watching for a cleaning cycle. The US Litter-Robot 4 lists app visit and weight monitoring; camera-based visual monitoring is not established for this model.
The official US model requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Buyers who want the app-connected monitoring or automatic-litter-refill convenience described here should confirm that their home network provides the required band and that the chosen package includes any desired LitterHopper accessory.
Regional specifications and cleaning
The US and UK listings identify the same Litter-Robot 4 model, but regional purchase conditions differ. The UK listing gives a 15 V DC device, a 40 by 40 cm entrance, a 10.9 kg empty weight and a 56 by 68.6 cm footprint, and lists a two-year standard warranty. The US listing gives a one-year standard warranty and does not make US bundle pricing transferable to the UK.
For deep cleaning, the official instructions say not to immerse, spray or soak the electronic base or control panel. Wipe the base with a damp cloth, apply spray to the cloth away from the electronics, and ensure the globe is aligned and the bonnet is securely latched during reassembly. These are manufacturer instructions, not steps reported by the owner.
