Whisker Litter-Robot 5: first-week motor alert and peeling seal
I used the Whisker Litter-Robot 5 for a week: a motor-fault alert cleared itself, but a peeling seal caught litter and tore a bag.
After receiving the LR5 for a week, I have not found any major problems, and it also looks somewhat better than the LR4. However, there have been quite a few minor issues... First came a motor fault, which then cleared by itself. Today, the litter-pan seal fell off, collected a lot of litter, could not be stuck back on, and even tore the bag... I also bought an LR4, and it has never had any problems.
So if you already have an LR4, wait a little before buying. Wait for Whisker to improve the LR5; we are effectively the early testers... Although there is no major problem, having one minor issue after another is still somewhat frustrating...
However, Whisker's customer service is genuinely good and solved the problem quickly. They placed an order for a new seal for me.

The owner identifies the product as the LR5 but does not provide a full model number. The official US materials identify Litter-Robot 5, so the guide below uses that product as the regional match; it does not establish that every LR5 sold elsewhere has identical specifications or support terms.

What happened during the first week
The owner's report separates two issues: a motor-fault alert that disappeared on its own, and a litter-pan seal that peeled away, collected litter, could not be reattached, and tore a bag. The cleared alert is not enough to confirm a diagnosis or a permanent repair, while the damaged seal created a direct cleanup and waste-bag problem for this owner.
Whisker Litter-Robot 5 · US support
The owner's comparison is personal rather than a controlled reliability test: their LR4 had not caused problems, while the LR5 produced several minor annoyances within one week. That experience supports caution for an LR4 owner considering an upgrade, but it does not establish failure rates for all units.
Seal replacement and support
Whisker's US care guidance says to replace brush-type seal strips when they are flattened or peeling, follow the model-specific replacement instructions, and avoid getting them wet while cleaning the base. The owner reports that support ordered a replacement seal, but does not report receiving or installing it, so restored reliability has not been established.
For a buyer or owner facing the same symptom, the relevant next step is to use the model-specific seal location and replacement directions rather than treating the owner's temporary motor-alert disappearance as proof that the unit is fully fixed. The reported support response was quick, but the source does not provide a completed replacement outcome or a service timeline.
US setup and space requirements
The US Litter-Robot 5 manual lists assembled dimensions of 29.50 inches high, 22.00 inches wide, and 27.25 inches deep. It should stand level without touching a wall, with enough access for the waste drawer; an unstable support can interfere with weight detection. These are official US specifications, not measurements from the owner's home.
Whisker Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro · US English manual
The official US setup guidance recommends keeping the old litter box beside the robot, initially leaving the new unit powered off, and not forcing a cat to enter. The old box should be removed only after the cat reliably chooses the new robot, rather than after a fixed number of days. Automatic mode requires a cat weighing at least 2 pounds.
