Aqara Presence Sensor FP2: frequent ghost detections in my smart home

I found the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 was the best of several options I tried, but frequent ghost occupants made me worry about false smart-home triggers.

I tried Xiaomi and Tuya, and now the FP2, and found that each has its own shortcomings.

The FP2 is the best of a weak bunch, but ghost detections appear far too often. My home frequently shows a group of people for no obvious reason, which is genuinely unsettling.

If I connect appliances to it later, I worry there could be a pile of accidental triggers.

The owner identifies the product only as the FP2. Aqara's US product page identifies the regional product as the Presence Sensor FP2, a continuously powered Wi-Fi mmWave sensor with room mapping and multi-person detection; the exact local configuration used in the post is not specified.

What to know
This is the same FP2 model identified by Aqara for the US market. Aqara lists room mapping, multi-person detection and up to 30 zones, but the owner’s post does not identify a fuller regional SKU or configuration.

What the owner experienced

The owner reports that the FP2 produced frequent ghost occupants during ordinary home use, sometimes showing several people when nobody was apparently there. That is a personal observation rather than a controlled accuracy test, and the post does not establish the cause or show that every installation will behave the same way.

The concern matters most when presence detection controls other devices: the owner worries that false occupants could create accidental appliance triggers. No appliance automation was reported as having been connected or triggered, so that consequence remains a risk rather than a documented result.

What the regional FP2 adds

Aqara's US FP2 is a continuously powered Wi-Fi mmWave presence sensor with room mapping, multi-person detection and support for up to 30 zones. It supports Apple Home and Home Assistant through HomeKit Controller without requiring an Aqara hub.

Zone and multi-person detection require wall mounting, according to Aqara. That installation condition is important when applying the owner's experience to a purchase, because the post does not describe the mounting position or room map used.

Troubleshooting ghost detections

Aqara's manual distinguishes edges, interference sources and entrances or exits when mapping the FP2. Edges suppress targets, interference zones suppress new targets while allowing existing targets to move through, and door areas affect target creation and removal.

Those mapping controls provide relevant troubleshooting points, but the source post does not report a completed fix or a controlled diagnosis. Buyers should therefore treat the owner's ghost-detection warning as an unresolved installation-specific concern, especially before linking the sensor to appliances.
