My EDIFIER W820NB Spatial Audio month: why I’d choose the lighter Classic

Reviewed: EDIFIER W820NB Spatial Audio Edition, EDIFIER W820NB Classic EditionRegional reference: EDIFIER W820NB (United States); EDIFIER W820NB Plus (New Version) (United States); EDIFIER W820NB Plus (New Version) (France (EU))

I used the EDIFIER W820NB Spatial Audio edition for a month, but found the lighter Classic enough for occasional train rides and everyday listening.

A Chinese comparison table for five Bluetooth headphone models: Fit900NB, ATOM MAX, and three W820NB versions. Rows compare price, Bluetooth version, sound quality and codecs, spatial audio, tracking, noise cancellation, call noise reduction, weight, comfort, controls, charging, battery life, dual connection, latency, folding, and noise-cancellation modes.

I tried several EDIFIER headphones, buying and returning them before finally choosing the Spatial Audio edition. I’ve used it for a month. Here are my impressions:

  1. My overall impression of EDIFIER is pretty good, and I think the headphones offer a lot for the money. Unless you have exceptionally discerning ears, EDIFIER headphones are absolutely fine. I don’t regret choosing EDIFIER over-ear headphones.
  2. Hi-Res features: if I were choosing again, the W820NB Classic would absolutely be enough. Multipoint, head tracking and dual Hi-Res certification are all unnecessary extras to me. Multipoint requires turning off Hi-Res mode, and head tracking does too. The difference between Hi-Res and dual Hi-Res certification is only something you can appreciate if you have exceptionally discerning ears; in ordinary use, there isn’t much difference.
  3. Comfort: I’d choose the lighter W820NB Classic.
  4. For high-speed train rides, I’d choose the W820NB Classic. For the subway, I’d choose the W820NB Classic too. Why? I don’t ride every day, so the Classic is enough.
  5. If color is what matters to you and you’re not particular about the rest, choose the Fit900 or Max.

The owner’s month-long experience is with the China-market W820NB Spatial Audio edition, while the comparison image labels several W820NB versions, including a Classic. The US W820NB and the US and French W820NB Plus (New Version) are related family models, not verified regional renames of the owner’s headphones; their listed specifications should not be treated as specifications for the China editions.

The Classic may be enough for occasional travel

Looking back, the owner would choose the lighter W820NB Classic: they said it would be enough for their occasional high-speed and subway journeys. That is a personal preference, not a finding from a measured comfort or transport-noise test.

The comparison image labels China-market W820NB versions and lists different configurations, including Bluetooth 5.2 and LDAC/SBC for the China Classic. The US original W820NB is a related reference, not a confirmed identical version; its official page lists Bluetooth 5.0 and SBC. Check the market and exact edition before applying a specification to a purchase.

Treat the newer Plus as a related model, not the same regional edition

The US and French W820NB Plus (New Version) pages list Bluetooth 6.1, LDAC/SBC, Spatial Sound, multipoint and Hi-Res up to 96 kHz/24-bit. These are specifications for that later model; they do not show that it is the same hardware as the owner’s 2024 China Spatial Audio edition.

The owner reports that, on their model, using multipoint or head tracking required turning off Hi-Res mode. The supplied US and French product pages do not establish whether that restriction applies to either regional Plus model, so buyers should not assume the owner’s experience transfers.
