eero 7: a 2Gbps fibre test before ordering eero Pro 7
I tested eero 7 on a new 2Gbps fibre line and saw 1.2Gbps wired but 470Mbps Wi-Fi before returning it; I later ordered eero Pro 7.
Background: I had just switched to a 2Gbps fibre connection and was looking for a router that could deliver at least 1Gbps over Wi-Fi inside my home.
I tried Amazon’s eero 7—an emphatic no. Over a wired connection, download speed reached 1.2Gbps, but upload was only 600Mbps. Wi-Fi reached just 470Mbps down and 204Mbps up, which was so frustrating I could only laugh. The official website advertises 2.5Gbps over a wired connection and 1.8Gbps over Wi-Fi, but I could not get close to those figures, so I promptly returned it. If anyone knows a good router, please recommend one. Thank you.
Update: Thanks to helpful commenters who recommended a router with a 6GHz band, saying it could improve network speeds, I ordered an eero Pro 7 during Black Friday to try next.
Someone recommended the TP-Link BE19000 gaming router. It has a 19Gbps rating and costs more than C$600 per unit; anyone who needs one could give it a try.

Models in your region
The owner’s tested router is eero 7, which matches the US model listed by eero. The official US specification lists two 2.5GbE ports and advertised wireless speeds up to 1.8Gbps; these are maximum claims, not minimum speeds that every client or home should achieve. The owner later ordered eero Pro 7, but did not report testing results for it.

| eero 7 | eero 7 (US) | This is the model the owner tested. The US version has two 2.5GbE ports and advertises wireless speeds up to 1.8Gbps, but eero’s maximum figures do not establish the speed a particular home, client or internet plan will receive. |
| eero Pro 7 | eero Pro 7 (US) | The owner ordered this newer step-up model after the eero 7 result but did not test or report results from it. The US version is tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with two 5GbE ports and advertised wireless speeds up to 3.9Gbps, so its specifications differ from the tested eero 7 without proving a faster outcome in this home. |

What the owner measured
The owner wanted at least 1Gbps over Wi-Fi after installing a 2Gbps fibre line. With eero 7, the reported wired result was 1.2Gbps down and 600Mbps up, while Wi-Fi reached about 470Mbps down and 204Mbps up. A screenshot shows 476Mbps down and 204Mbps up; the source does not provide the client device, Wi-Fi channel or width, router placement, test server or other controls, so these figures describe this setup rather than a universal eero 7 result.
How to read eero’s speed claims
The owner compared the result with eero 7’s advertised 2.5Gbps wired and 1.8Gbps wireless figures. The official US listing describes two 2.5GbE ports and wireless speeds up to 1.8Gbps, but those are maximum advertised capabilities, not guaranteed throughput for every client or home. The available evidence therefore cannot identify why this installation fell short or determine whether another setup would perform differently.
What the eero Pro 7 changes
The owner ordered eero Pro 7 after commenters suggested that 6GHz support could improve speeds, but no Pro 7 test result is reported. For buyers comparing the models, the official US Pro 7 specification lists tri-band Wi-Fi 7, two 5GbE ports and advertised wireless speeds up to 3.9Gbps, compared with eero 7’s two 2.5GbE ports and up-to-1.8Gbps wireless claim. Those specifications show a different configuration, not a measured guarantee for the owner’s home.
A recommendation that was not tested
The owner also relayed a recommendation for a TP-Link BE19000 gaming router, described as having a 19Gbps rating and costing more than C$600 per unit. The source does not identify a complete model or report personal testing, so this mention cannot establish its performance or make it a verified alternative to eero 7.
