My 11-dripper comparison: why I used the Kalita Wave 155 and 185 least

Reviewed: Kalita Wave 155 (stainless steel), Kalita Wave 185 (stainless steel)Regional reference: Kalita Wave 155 (stainless steel) / Kalita Wave 185 (stainless steel) (United States)

I tried 11 pour-over drippers over time. I used my Kalita Wave 155 and 185 least because their papers lost shape during storage and rinsing.

An infographic compares common pour-over coffee drippers, showing product photos labeled Origami ceramic, Kalita 155 and 185, Hario V60 stainless steel, Hario olive-wood glass, Rivers silicone, KINTO V60, Brewista glass, and three folding dripper designs. A bottom-right arrow says “Next page.”
A coffee-filter comparison chart shows V60 cone filters, flat-bottom filters and collapsible filters, with product examples and rows comparing extraction method, ease of use, use cases, materials, heat retention and flavor. Large English text reads “Pour over coffee PK” and “Coffee filter cup.”
The owner’s recommendation graphic groups seven pictured drippers by use: HARIO olive-wood glass and ORIGAMI for home, Brewista glass and a Kalita under a women’s recommendation, and HARIO stainless steel, RIVERS silicone and a triangular folding dripper for outdoors.

I bought 11 coffee drippers and spent a long time trying them out. Each has its own strengths.

Taking design, appearance, function and portability into account, I picked my top recommendations in the last image.

I used the Kalita 155 and 185 the least. Their filter papers easily lost their shape during storage and rinsing. They also felt overpriced—what a waste.

I hope this comparison is helpful.

Home and outdoor preferences are separate choices

The recommendation graphic puts the olive-wood glass HARIO and ceramic ORIGAMI in the home group, and the metal HARIO, silicone RIVERS and triangular folding dripper in the outdoor group. These are the owner’s use preferences. No recipe, temperature measurements or controlled taste comparison is supplied to establish the generic performance claims in the accompanying table.
