Google Fitbit Air Swimming Review: Distance Tracking and AI Coach Notes
I swam 1,200 m in one pool session, but my Fitbit Air recorded just over 600 m. Its AI training plans were more useful, though the default intensity felt basic.
I have worn the Fitbit Air for a long time to record my training, and I want to share my most realistic experience.
Swimming data: noticeable error
I actually swam 1,200 m today.
The band recorded only 600-plus metres, an error of nearly half.
My assessment of the cause
I had reset the account settings, and my personal parameters did not sync properly.
This caused deviations in pool-motion detection and the distance algorithm.
Indoor swimming has no GPS assistance, so the tolerance is relatively low. The data is useful only as a reference.
AI Coach: practical highlight
Although the swimming data failed me, the AI training plan is very suitable for everyday preparation.
I can enter my personal fitness level and training goal.
The system automatically arranges my weekly training volume and a personalized exercise plan.
My personal impression
The default sessions are relatively basic in intensity.
For people who already follow structured training, they feel too easy.
It works well as a training framework to refer to, and I can gradually increase the volume myself.

Models in your region
The same Fitbit Air family is sold in the US and UK. This account contrasts a large mismatch in one indoor-swim distance record with training plans the owner found more useful.

|---|---|---|
| Google Fitbit Air | Google Fitbit Air (US) | The US Fitbit Air is rated for up to seven days of battery life and 50 m water resistance, with Android 11+ or iOS 16.4+ support. Water resistance is separate from the accuracy of recorded pool distance. |
| Google Fitbit Air | Google Fitbit Air (UK) | The UK model shares the US headline weight, battery and charging figures. Coach requires a separate eligible Premium account in a supported country. |

Treat the swim distance as a reference
In one indoor session, the owner reported swimming 1,200 m while Fitbit Air recorded only 600-plus metres. They attributed the mismatch to personal parameters failing to sync after an account reset; that is the owner’s explanation, not an independently established cause.
For indoor swimming, the owner says there was no GPS assistance and that the recorded distance should be used only as a reference. Buyers who need dependable pool-distance records should therefore verify their own account setup and compare the device with the pool's known length rather than treating one reading as a measured result.
The AI plan is more useful as a starting framework
The owner's stronger result came from the AI training plan: entering fitness level and training goal produced a weekly training volume and personalised exercise plan. This is the owner's reported workflow and outcome, not an independent validation of the plan's training quality.
The owner found the default sessions too basic for someone already following structured training, but suitable as a framework for gradually adding volume. Google describes Health Coach as informational guidance and warns that AI can make mistakes, so users should review the suggestions rather than treat them as medical advice.
Check regional access before relying on the coach
Google lists Health Coach for supported countries including the US, Canada, the UK, Germany and France, but the official country list does not include Hong Kong or mainland China. The exact availability for a buyer depends on their account region and current service eligibility, so the owner's coach experience should not be assumed to transfer to every market.
The US and UK Fitbit Air listings both specify up to seven days of battery life, a 90-minute full charge and 50 m water resistance. Google also advises removing and fully drying a wet or sweaty band before wearing it again; these are manufacturer specifications and care guidance, not measurements from the owner's use.
