Homerun WF20 after one year: cleaning lessons

Reviewed: Homerun WF20Regional reference: WF20 (Taiwan)

I used the Homerun WF20 for a year with two cats. It reduced daily bowl cleaning, but fine-detail washing, filter replacement and occasional alerts became part of the routine.

Disassembled parts of a pet water fountain arranged on a beige countertop, including a clear plastic reservoir, a white top lid, an oval clear tray, a pump housing, a water pipe spout, an impeller, and small plastic filter accessories.

This is a two-cat household, and I have used the Homerun water fountain for one year.

My personal impressions of its advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

  1. The entire unit can be disassembled and washed, including the small parts.
  2. I do not need to wash the water bowl every day.
  3. Flowing water gives the cats more interest in drinking.

Disadvantages

  1. Cleaning needs to be very thorough, especially in the gaps of the small parts and in some corners.
  2. The filter needs to be replaced frequently, which adds expense.
  3. The indicator light often flashes unpredictably.
  4. There is occasionally a water noise.

Some problems that may occur

Problem: The cat kept pawing at the lid. After I cut off the yellow handle, the cat could no longer pull it open.

Problem: If the indicator light flashes unpredictably, first confirm that there is no other problem and try restarting the unit. Alternatively, ignore it; it may return to normal after a while.

Problem: If there is water noise, check whether the water level is too low. The filter may also be the cause; you can replace the filter or try using the fountain without one.

Problem: If the pump flow is weak, it may not have been cleaned thoroughly, the lid may not be fitted correctly, or the pump may be broken.

Problem: If the pump makes an unusual noise, contact after-sales service or replace the pump.

Problem: For corners that need cleaning, use the detailed pictures as a guide and scrub them with a cleaning tool.

A newly discovered useful product can disinfect the parts and soak out some dirt. After soaking, be sure to scrub everything clean.

No cat or dog water fountain can completely avoid biofilm. Try not to leave it uncleaned or leave the filter unchanged for long periods. I suggest keeping one ordinary water bowl and one fountain at home, so the cat still has water if the fountain fails. Do not place the fountain where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, because this can encourage algae growth or accelerate the growth of microorganisms.

When introducing a new automatic water fountain, give the cat time to adapt. You can start with a fountain-style design to help the cat get used to drinking from an automatic fountain.

Models in your region

The source account identifies the fountain as the Homerun WF20. Official regional material also identifies a WF20 for Taiwan and the United States, but the supplied Taiwan evidence only confirms its presence in the third-generation support area; it does not provide enough detail to confirm every regional feature or accessory. The US product page describes a 2L fountain with an external power supply and wireless pump.

Cleaning is the central trade-off

The owner's strongest practical benefit was avoiding daily bowl washing while still giving two cats access to moving water. The trade-off was that the fountain's many removable parts and narrow areas demanded detailed cleaning rather than a quick rinse. This is a one-year account from one two-cat household, not a measured hygiene test or a universal result.

The owner specifically found dirt-prone gaps and corners that needed tool-assisted scrubbing, and used soaking and disinfection before brushing the parts clean. The practical buying question is therefore whether you will maintain the small components regularly, not simply whether the main reservoir can be removed.

Plan for filters and troubleshooting

The owner reported frequent filter replacement, occasional unexplained indicator-light flashing and intermittent water noise. The source does not give a replacement interval, filter price or failure rate, so the ongoing maintenance burden cannot be quantified from this account; buyers should check local consumable availability and support terms before purchase.

The owner's troubleshooting sequence is practical but remains advice from personal use: check water level and filter condition for noise, confirm the lid and cleaning for weak flow, and contact after-sales service if the pump makes an unusual sound. A flashing light may clear after a restart or after being ignored, but the source does not establish what fault each light pattern represents.

Keep a backup water source

The owner recommends placing a conventional water bowl alongside the fountain so a malfunction does not leave the cats without water. This is a household-use precaution rather than a documented product requirement, and it matters especially because the account includes pump-flow, pump-noise and indicator-light problems.

The owner also advises keeping the fountain out of direct sunlight and allowing cats time to adapt to a new automatic fountain. These recommendations address placement and transition, while the supplied official evidence does not state a sunlight limit or a required acclimation period.

Regional buying context

The supplied official pages identify WF20 products for Taiwan and the United States, so the owner's model has a clear regional counterpart in both markets. The Taiwan support page does not list usable specifications in the supplied excerpt, while the US page describes a 2L fountain with an external power supply and wireless pump. Do not assume those US-listed details apply to every regional package without checking the local listing.

WF20 · United States

Because the source account does not document the exact power adapter, package contents or local service arrangement, those details remain unknown for the owner's unit and can affect compatibility, replacement-pump access and after-sales support. Confirm them with the regional seller before applying the owner's maintenance experience to a purchase.
