Philips NA565: good chicken, confusing control icons

My Philips NA565 makes good chicken and soft steamed bread, but the icons left me guessing. I printed my own labels and stuck them on the controls.

The owner’s printed Chinese labels on the control panel.
The labelled controls above the open drawer.
The basket divided into two cooking areas.

Printing labels for the controls

The Philips air fryer is pretty good. I tried it out: the air-fried chicken legs came out very well, noticeably different from my previous air fryer. For steaming, I’ve only tried sliced bread, and it came out soft.

The water tank is a little small, though; I keep having to refill it. And the control panel has no written descriptions at all. Some of the icons don’t make their functions obvious at a glance, so I had to print labels and stick them on myself.

I also have to complain about the manual. The pictures and text are completely separated. Flipping through it feels like being back at school, turning between an exercise book and its answer key.

The owner names the NA565. Its wide, dividable basket and steam functions connect it to the NA565 Megabasket family sold in the UK and Germany; the owner does not give the full model suffix.

The German specification belongs to that regional product. Compare the rating label of the unit supplied to you before importing; this owner account does not replace the electrical rating and cooking instructions for your local unit.

Choosing for everyday use

The NA565 owner enjoyed steaming bread but found refilling and learning the controls inconvenient. For NA565/92 (UK) and NA565/02 (Germany) buyers, the question is how often steam cooking will be worth that extra work.

Philips distinguishes air frying, steaming and combined SteamFry on the German NA565/02 page. This owner tried chicken with air frying and bread with steam; neither result compares all three modes on the same food. Their positive result concerns steaming sliced bread; the account gives no reheating-mode result.

Look at the local control-panel diagram before ordering. The author’s added labels identify the modes plus reheating, descaling, temperature, time and the shake reminder. They are a personal aid on the photographed unit, not proof that every regional panel or manual uses the same icons. The Philips support page lists NA565/02 and directs users to product-specific information by model number.

The owner does not measure the water used or number of refills. Consider how accessible the tank would be in your kitchen; placing the appliance where filling it requires moving the whole body would add work each time.
