Litter-Robot 5 Pro: a cabinet setup while my cats adjust

I upgraded from the Litter-Robot 3 and 4 to the 5 Pro, hiding it in a cabinet with a side passage and lazy Susan while my cats adjust.

A farmhouse-style cream-colored cabinet with a dark wood top sitting on laminate flooring. The cabinet features double barn-style cabinet doors with black hardware on the left and an open two-tier section on the right. A white smart pet drying box with a clear front door sits atop the right side of the cabinet.
A large white automatic cat litter box wedged at an angle inside a cabinet with its doors wide open, placed over light wood-look laminate flooring.

A smartphone app screen displaying camera event logs for a pet monitoring device. Under the heading 'Camera' marked as 'Online', tabs for 'Today' and 'All Events' appear above a banner promoting Whisker+. Below are timestamped video recording events labeled 'Cat detected' from Wednesday 29 and Tuesday 28, each with thumbnail previews showing a cat near an enclosed pet area, along with clip durations. Navigation tabs at the bottom include Events, Live, and Controls.

I bought both the 3 and 4; this move was my upgrade to the 5 Pro.

Even while using the two previous generations, litter tracking was always a problem. I never found a particularly good solution, so I could only keep vacuuming and wiping.

This time, before switching to the 5, I spent a long time searching Xiaohongshu. I saw acrylic panels available in China; they did look good, but they also took up a lot of space and would not have been convenient to ship over. After searching for a long time, I finally found what felt like the perfect solution.

I bought a cabinet on Amazon so I could hide the litter box completely. The passage beside it may help reduce litter tracking, and I put a lazy Susan under the litter box to make changing the waste bag and adding litter easier.

I hope this solves the litter-tracking problem this time.

Once the cabinet was assembled, all the little ones came over to inspect it suspiciously. The camera has given me a lot of amusing entertainment. My previous machines were placed out in the open, and the cats had no trouble using them; this time I have made a private room for it, so they may need some time to get used to it. The first one to christen the new litter box was still the eldest.

Cabinet placement and the tracking problem

Rachel’s cabinet is intended to hide the Litter-Robot and use the side passage as a litter-tracking control. Her account describes this as a hoped-for improvement, not a demonstrated result: she has not yet reported whether tracking decreased after the move.

The official US manual lists assembled dimensions of 29.50 inches high, 22.00 inches wide and 27.25 inches deep. A cabinet must accommodate those dimensions while leaving access to the waste drawer; the unit should stand level and should not touch a wall. Rachel’s lazy-Susan arrangement is her setup, not an arrangement approved by the manual.

Waste handling and maintenance

The owner chose the lazy Susan to make waste-bag changes and litter refills easier. That may improve access in her cabinet, but it does not remove the need for regular waste disposal and litter checks, which the manual still requires.

The cabinet photos show how the owner turns the litter box to reach it. Before choosing an enclosure for a Litter-Robot 5 Pro, allow enough room to pull out the waste drawer and keep the machine level without wall contact; those placement requirements still apply inside furniture.

Cat acclimation and camera expectations

Rachel says her cats previously used externally placed machines without difficulty, but she expects they may need time to adjust to the new enclosed location. The manual recommends keeping the old litter box beside the robot, initially leaving the robot powered off, and never forcing a cat to enter. Automatic mode is intended for cats weighing at least 2 lb.

Rachel reports that the camera is entertaining and that the eldest cat was first to use the new setup. The official US support information says the free camera plan stores front-camera events for two days and allows five total minutes of live viewing per day; Whisker+ adds extended storage, unlimited live viewing and labeled detections. Camera recognition requires setup and is not a medical diagnosis.
