Litter-Robot 5 Pro: A Hesitant Cat’s Gradual Transition
My cat initially avoided the Litter-Robot 5 Pro. Removing its front fence and keeping the old litter box beside it helped my cat start using it.
I recently upgraded my automatic litter box, and I have to admit it feels a little emotional. My Litter-Robot 3 stayed reliable for a full five years, so I really have to respect its build quality. This time I switched to the newer Litter-Robot 5 Pro, which I would describe as one of the most feature-rich and intelligent automatic litter boxes available right now. Here is my real-world experience.
Automatic cleaning keeps the litter box clean and odor-free while freeing me from scooping.
The 5 Pro comes with both internal and external cameras plus AI multi-cat recognition. Every bathroom visit records the time, frequency and changes in the cat’s weight. I can also watch my cat use the litter box.
The rotating drum is very quiet, and odor control is quite good.
The cat’s adjustment period was a little difficult. For the first two days, my cat was completely unwilling to go inside. Later, I removed the front fence and placed the old litter box next to it as a transition, and after two days my cat finally used it successfully.
The price is not low. The official website’s Holiday Sale took $150 off, and there was also cashback from a Chase credit card. My referral link could take another $50 off, so it may be worth considering.
Overall, I can clearly feel the 5 Pro’s upgrades in smart features and detail design. I recommend buying it.

What the owner’s experience shows
The owner’s clearest result was not immediate acceptance: the cat avoided the Litter-Robot 5 Pro for two days. Removing the front fence and keeping the old litter box beside the robot for another two days preceded successful use. This is one cat’s transition, not a guaranteed acclimation time, but it gives hesitant-cat owners a practical starting point.
Whisker Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro · US English manual
The owner also reports quiet drum rotation, good odor control, automatic cleaning and camera-based activity and weight tracking. These are reported impressions and observations from the account; they should not be treated as a durability test, medical assessment or proof that every cat will respond similarly.
Camera and subscription details
The official US product page confirms that the Litter-Robot 5 Pro has dual cameras and app-linked automatic sifting, distinguishing it from the standard Litter-Robot 5. Current US support terms say the free camera plan stores front-camera events for two days and provides five total minutes of daily live viewing; Whisker+ adds extended storage, unlimited live viewing and labeled detections. The inner-globe event recording feature is described as coming soon.
Camera recognition requires setup and is not a medical diagnosis. Buyers should also confirm which camera services, plans and features apply in their market rather than assuming that the owner’s account or current US terms transfer unchanged.
Placement and transition planning
The US manual lists assembled dimensions of 29.50 inches high, 22.00 inches wide and 27.25 inches deep, approximately 74.9 by 55.9 by 69.2 centimetres. The unit should stand level without touching a wall, with enough access for the waste drawer; unstable supports can affect weight detection. The source comparison image gives different dimensions; measure your space using the official figures above.
For acclimation, the manual recommends placing the old box beside the robot, initially leaving the robot powered off and never forcing the cat inside. It also allows the removable fence to be taken off for visibility and reattached once the cat is comfortable. Automatic mode requires a cat weighing at least 2 pounds, or about 0.9 kilograms, and regular waste disposal and litter checks remain necessary.
Price and recommendation context
The owner describes the purchase price as high and mentions a Holiday Sale, Chase cashback and a referral-link discount. Those offers belong to the owner’s source-market account and may expire or vary by buyer. The referral link should also be considered when interpreting the owner’s recommendation; the author offers referral links, while the purchase funding is not disclosed.
The owner’s previous Litter-Robot 3 had been used for five years and remained stable, but that history does not establish the Litter-Robot 5 Pro’s long-term durability. The strongest supported takeaway is narrower: this owner experienced noticeable feature and detail upgrades, while a hesitant cat needed a gradual transition.
