Litter-Robot 5 Pro: quiet cycling and instant cat acceptance

I found the Litter-Robot 5 Pro quieter than expected, and my cat used it immediately; I’m still waiting to see how it holds up long term.

Litter-Robot 5 Pro First Setup

After years of owning cats, I finally gave in and bought an automatic litter box.

This time I upgraded directly to the Litter-Robot 5 Pro. It really wasn’t cheap at $1,000, so I used it and came back to give everyone a genuine review!

Unboxing: first impression

It was bigger than I imagined, but it looks pretty good overall. Installation and setup also weren’t as complicated as I expected.

The points I like most:

The automatic cleaning is genuinely suitable for lazy people. After my cat uses the bathroom, it cleans itself, so I basically don’t have to keep scooping poop all the time.

The 5 Pro also has dual cameras inside and outside, plus AI recognition. It can record when the cat uses the bathroom, how often it happens, and changes in weight, which is more convenient for homes with multiple cats.

About the noise

The drum rotation is quieter than I expected. It doesn’t feel especially noisy in the house, and odor control has also been good so far.

My cat didn’t need any transition period. On the first day, immediately after I assembled it, the cat went inside and slept there…

Is it worth it?

The biggest drawback is that it’s expensive.

But if you really hate scooping litter every day, are often away from home, or have several cats, I think the automatic cleaning and bathroom records are genuinely appealing.

My overall experience is good so far, but can such an expensive litter box really remain stable over the long term? I’ll use it for a while longer and see.

Could you accept spending this much on a litter box?

Bundle contents

I bought a bundle that also came with its own cat litter and bags for changing the litter. What's in the bag? Oh.

The unit is larger than expected

Wait, this is so big.

Powering on the robot

Let's plug it in and see how it works.

Controls and manual litter loading

Is this a touchscreen? I don't think so. The litter hopper hasn't arrived yet, so I can only add litter manually.

The cat investigates

Contestant number one is full of curiosity and can't believe its eyes. Contestant number one is full of curiosity and can't believe its eyes.

First use and next steps

First poop, yeah. Kitty is very curious about this new litter box and thinks this is their new home. Stay tuned for more on how it works.

The owner identifies the product as the US Litter-Robot 5 Pro, and Whisker’s US listing uses the same model name. This is an early-use account rather than a long-term reliability test; the owner has not yet established how the unit performs over extended use.

What the owner tested

The owner’s early use covered setup, automatic cleaning, noise, odor control and immediate cat acceptance. The owner reports that the cat used the unit on the first day and even slept inside it, but does not claim a completed acclimation process or long-term reliability.

The video shows a bundle containing litter and replacement waste bags. The owner also says the litter hopper had not arrived during setup, so litter had to be added manually at that point.

Size, placement and setup

The owner found the unit larger than expected, while the US manual lists assembled dimensions of 29.50 inches high, 22.00 inches wide and 27.25 inches deep. Those measurements describe the assembled machine, so buyers should also leave practical access for the waste drawer and avoid placing it against a wall.

Whisker Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro · US English manual

The litter hopper had not arrived during the owner’s first setup, so the video shows litter being added manually. Buyers ordering a bundle should check which accessories are included and whether they ship separately.

Cleaning, noise and ongoing work

The owner reports that automatic cleaning reduced the need for repeated manual scooping and that drum rotation was quieter than expected. This is the owner’s early household observation, not a measured sound-level test, and the owner has not yet established long-term performance.

Automatic sifting does not remove every maintenance task: the manual still calls for regular waste disposal and litter checks. Buyers should therefore treat the product as a way to reduce scooping rather than eliminate litter-box upkeep.

Cameras and cat monitoring

The owner highlights the 5 Pro’s inner and outer cameras and AI recognition for recording bathroom timing, frequency and weight changes, especially in a multi-cat home. Whisker’s US support page says camera recognition requires setup and is not a medical diagnosis, so these records should be treated as monitoring information rather than health advice.

Whisker Litter-Robot 5 Pro · US support

Current US support terms say the free camera plan stores front-camera events for two days and allows five total minutes of daily live viewing; Whisker+ adds extended storage, unlimited live viewing and labeled detections. Inner-globe event recording is described as coming soon, so older impressions should not be used to assume every camera feature is currently included.

Helping a cat switch

Although this owner reports immediate acceptance, the US manual recommends keeping the old litter box beside the robot, initially leaving the robot powered off and never forcing a cat to enter. Automatic mode requires a cat weighing at least 2 lb, so buyers should check the manual’s conditions rather than generalize this one cat’s quick response.
