PETKIT MAX2: seam-tape modification notes for PuraMax 2 buyers

I bought a PETKIT MAX2 after moving and spent hours taping its seams to keep litter out. I like its enclosed waste bin, but hope the next version improves.

The screen on the first-generation model I bought broke after about a year. Fortunately, the other functions were unaffected, so I made do with it for three or four years. When I moved house last month, I did not want to carry it with me, so I threw it away.

After settling into the new home, my several cats could use the litter box many times a day, so I quickly arranged an automatic litter box. After watching the options for a long time, I still chose the MAX. Although the design has been updated in many ways over the years, this structure seems safest because it will not trap a cat. The waste bin also has a lid, which is very convenient for renters. However, the machine still has many design problems. Once it arrives, I recommend using tape to seal every gap inside the waste bin, to stop litter from falling in and to prevent ammonia released by cat feces from corroding the motherboard and screen.

I worked on it for half a day and really strained my back. I hope the manufacturer continues improving the next generation.

Models in your region

The owner describes a China-market PETKIT MAX2 automatic litter box and does not provide a full model number. The current UK PURA MAX 2 P9902 is a newer same-brand regional counterpart, but matching accessories, app-region settings and support terms remain unconfirmed. The owner’s tape modification is an individual workaround, not a verified repair.

What the owner modified

The owner describes sealing the waste area, while the photographs show tape on inner cylinder seams and around a covered electronics area. These locations should not be treated as interchangeable. The owner believes this can keep litter out and protect the motherboard and screen from ammonia, but the proposed mechanism and any extension of machine life remain unconfirmed.

This report documents an owner modification, with no measured durability result. It does not recommend taping electronics, sensors or moving parts. For leaks or suspected electronics damage, use the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions and support rather than altering those areas. The manual says to power off before maintenance, prohibits rinsing or soaking the main unit, and advises wiping the pad with water while avoiding alcohol, disinfectants, bleach and non-neutral detergents.

Buying and setup checks for regional versions

The UK PuraMax 2 P9902 is specified for cats weighing 1.5–10 kg, a hard level surface at least 5 cm from walls, and litter no longer than 12 mm. Check those conditions against your space, cat and litter before buying; they are official UK requirements, not measurements confirmed for the owner’s China-market unit.

The international manual lists the P9902 at 620 × 538 × 552 mm and requires 12V, 2A power. Confirm the regional plug, power supply and available floor space for the model sold in your market rather than transferring the owner’s configuration across regions.

Waste storage and app limits

The UK product page lists a 7 L waste bin and up to 15 days of waste storage, but the 15-day figure comes from single-cat laboratory conditions and can vary with heat and humidity. A household with several cats, like the owner’s, should expect a different emptying schedule.

The UK counterpart uses a 2.4 GHz app connection and can run preset settings without internet, although app data will not update offline. Matching app-region support and accessories for the owner’s China-market MAX2 remain unconfirmed, so verify those details locally.

How to interpret the earlier screen failure

The owner reports that a first-generation unit’s screen failed after about a year, while its other functions continued for three or four years. This is useful ownership history, but it does not establish the reliability of the newer MAX2 or prove that ammonia caused the earlier failure.
