PETKIT MAX 2: waste-drawer odor notes for PURA MAX 2 and PUROBOT MAX 3 buyers

I used tofu mixed litter in my PETKIT MAX 2: after an initially clean month, the waste drawer began smelling daily even after cleaning and daily emptying.

Buying into the trend, I bought the PETKIT MAX 2 at the end of March. At the time, I was so captivated by its looks that I insisted on buying it.

My experience during the first month was quite good: there were no urine leaks, and the small amount of spilled litter was acceptable. I used tofu mixed litter. Xiaofang litter smelled too strong for my liking, so I did not buy it again after finishing it.

I gave the entire litter box a thorough cleaning during the May holiday and found nothing unusual. From the second week of May, I began smelling waves of foul odor in the living room. The smell came from the waste drawer. After replacing the waste bag, washing and disinfecting the drawer, and letting it dry, the odor disappeared, so I continued using it.

Every day afterward, it smelled. I felt that the waste drawer was not sealing tightly; even emptying the bag once a day did not help. The odor seemed as if it had been absorbed into the waste-drawer compartment.

I contacted customer service and bought an odor eliminator, but it did not solve the waste-drawer odor. Customer service kept telling me to change the litter and waste bag more frequently. Even changing the waste bag once a day still left an odor, and I cannot change the litter every day.

What the owner’s odor report shows

The owner’s first month was positive for urine containment, with only an acceptable amount of spilled litter. After a full cleaning during the May holiday, odor appeared in the living room from the waste drawer during the second week of May. This is a specific account of one owner’s unit, litter and use period, not a general failure rate.

Cleaning, disinfecting and drying the waste drawer temporarily removed the odor, but the owner then reported daily odor despite emptying the bag once a day. The owner suspected incomplete drawer sealing or odor absorbed into the drawer; that suspected cause was not independently confirmed.

The owner also tried a purchased odor eliminator without resolving the waste-drawer smell. Customer service advised more frequent litter and bag changes, but the owner says daily bag replacement still smelled and considers daily litter replacement impractical. For US shoppers, the supplied official page now presents the newer PETKIT PUROBOT MAX 3 rather than the older PURA MAX 2 listing. Its advertised airtight waste-bin cover and odor-control modules are specifications for MAX 3, not evidence that the owner’s MAX 2 drawer was airtight or that MAX 3 will reproduce the same odor experience.
